Que ce soit pour la fête des mères, la Saint Valentin ou Noël, les parfums sont, d’après un sondage IFOP, le cadeau le plus offert. Il est difficile de s’y retrouver dans la jungle des parfums pour femme, en effet toutes les marques de vêtements et prêt à porter ont leurs propres gammes de parfums. Il n’y a qu’à voir Lancôme avec La Vie est Belle ou Guerlain avec La Petite Robe Noire pour s’apercevoir à quel point la guerre du marketing est lancée. Les marques rivalisent d’inventivité et multiplient les spot de pubs. Les consommateurs quant à eux recherchent un parfum pas cher qu’ils peuvent trouver en boutique ou encore à des prix plus attractifs sur internet.

I still remember copping the Outkast Greatest Hits in high school and going straight to “The Whole World” and losing my mind. Dre and Big Boi murked their verses until Killer Mike came on and did to them what Freeway did to Jay and Beans on “1-900 Hustler.” “Playa, I grind/My focus is crime/Raw with the rhyme/Slick with the slime” is all it took for me to ride with Killer Mike through whatever (except that “A.D.I.D.A.S.”). I can even remember his jaw-dropping performance at Smoking Grooves in ‘02 when Outkast started “The Whole World” and no one knew if Killer Mike had got on the bus or they were just going to skip through his verse and just when it looked like they’d left him in the ATL, he comes barrelling out from backstage with the mic in hand, tearing through his verse with a sense of urgency like his life depended on it.
And shit, I’m from the ‘burbs. Of course I came up on Co Flow and Funcrusher Plus. I can’t even get started on Can Ox and Cold Vein. Def Jux will forever have a special place in my heart.
I love hip-hop. Always have. Not many writers out there have a decade-plus in the game and in that decade I’ve been to a lot of shows. Some really great ones, and some that I’m still trying to block from memory like those girls with that cup shit. And it’s not always the artists that are the problem. Sometimes they definitely are, but it’s usually the forgettable opening acts. Sometimes it’s the fans, like that one dude in front of me at an Immortal Technique show headnodding and pumping his fist to “Dance with the Devil.” Dude like that probably gets hype watching Titanic. But I also didn’t rush to get to the venue. Had some more important things going on, like my three year-old not being able to sleep. By the time I got to the spot, I’d missed the Despot performance, which was supposedly dope, but I caught RATKING, more limited by their acoustics than anything else.

It’s official. Fashawn, one of the Left Coast’s most consistent, has inked a deal to Mass Appeal Records, a label affiliated with the mag of the same name and overseen by the one and only Nasty Nas. Fashawn joins Boldy James and Bishop Nehru as the first three signees. Here’s the official release:
West coast rapper Fashawn has officially inked a deal with Nas’ newly launched Mass Appeal imprint. Fashawn is now working on his long-awaited sophomore album, The Ecology, set to release on September 30.
Fashawn first gained major attention in 2009 for the release of his debut album Boy Meets World. This early success led him to be inaugurated into the 2010 XXL Freshmen cover, standing alongside Wiz Khalifa, J.Cole, Big Sean and more. His buzz has gotten increasingly stronger, from sharing the stage with notable stars such as Kendrick Lamar, Talib Kweli, Wiz Khalifa to performing at jam-packed shows like Rock the Bells and Paid Dues. He also performed the entrance theme song for boxing welterweight champion Timothy Bradley when he fought his rematch against Manny Pacquiao on Pay Per View last April.
Fashawn’s distinctive talent captured the attention of Nas, who brought him out during a sold-out showcase at SXSW earlier this year. “Fashawn is one of the most underrated in the game,” said Nas. “The world is gonna know soon. We’re excited to have him as a part of the family.”
The Ecology will be Fashawn’s first release under the Mass Appeal imprint. This album will not only showcase his raw lyricism but also introduce his versatility. The Ecology will feature a handful of collaborations including Nas, Aloe Blacc and many more.
“I took the time to really work on this project because I knew it would be important not just for my career, but for hip-hop,” said Fashawn. “I can’t wait to finally share my new project, especially through a label that gets my vision.”
