It’s here, and it’s great.

On August 8, 2015, the Hip Hop world mourned the passing of one of its greatest emcees, Sean Price. The Brooklyn legend leveraged lethal rhyme schemes and an unabridged vision to mold and progress his beloved genre. Two-years ago, we lost a rap staple, the founder of the underground collective, Boot Camp Clik, and one of music’s strongest voices. Yesterday, August 8th, we were reminded of that strong voice.

Finally, Price’s longtime record label, Duck Down Records, released Sean’s highly-anticipated posthumous album, Imperius Rex. His fourth solo studio album in 12-years, Imperius Rex boasts 16-tracks at just shy of a one-hour duration, assisted by an eclectic grouping of featured artists. Legendary enigmatic wordsmith and producer, MF DOOM, and Wu-Tang Clan veterans Method Man, Raekwon, and Inspectah Deck grace the decorated track listing; lesser known names, like Chicago’s Vic Spencer, are also nestled within the mix. The diverse guest spots reflect Sean’s expansive reach and influence; he marched as proudly with the greats as he did with the unknowns. Price didn’t care about an artist’s cachet—he cared about their talent, about what he saw in them. An undeniable skillset paired with a rare integrity removed Sean P from the masses, and placed him proudly atop Hip Hop’s mantle.

Despite his untimely passing, Sean Price AKA Mic Tyson continues to influence, inspire, and be heard. Imperius Rex is available on all streaming platforms, and can be heard below. Do yourselves a favor: click play.
