Details surrounding the album are sparse, but its existence is real.

No ifs ands or buts–Pete Rock is a bonafide musical legend. The foundational New York producer has circumvented trends to assert himself as a timeless musician, as someone who will perpetually garner attention when announcing new work. Well, it looks like fans have two new Rock project to look forward to.

At the top of 2019, Rock announced via his Instagram that he will be releasing an all instrumental LP, The Return of SP1200–his inaugural 2019 release. In his IG caption, Rock wrote, “The Return Of The SP1200 instrumental lp with beats from like 1990-97-98 i never used. The rejects or just beats that i never did nothing with. Gonna be variations of the way i do instrumental albums COMING SOON!!!”.

Joining this exciting news, fellow New York hip-hop artist, Skyzoo, reported that he and Pete Rock have a collaborative album in the works, Retropolitan. Announced via Skyzoo’s Twitter yesterday, January 16th, the 36-year-old rapper said that details surrounding the project have yet to be released, but confirmed the album’s existence.

Retropolitan marks Rock’s first LP collab since the 2016 Don’t Smoke Rock, recorded with Smoke DZA.
