A collection of artists have paid homage to the fallen George Floyd — through protest, donation, and music. One of the most recent to voice his pain and empathy for Floyd and the marginalized black community is Lupe Fiasco with “Rest Up Big Homey… We Got It From Here.”
Over a lo-fi instrumental, the new Lupe offering’s minimalist production allows the Chicago icon to flex his lyrical muscle on this touching tribute. This song is as much an ode to George as it is a call-to-action to the world: it’s time — it’s been time — to wake up, to remove the blindfold, to act.
