Lil Wayne Earns Billboard 200 No. 1 Spot With ‘Tha Carter V’
A huge congrats goes out to Wayne!
The road to Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V was a convoluted one, but one that ultimately proved prosperous. The punctuating edition to Wayne’s storied album series, Tha Carter V has received the number-one spot on Billboard 200 for the week ending October 4th.
Wayne’s fourth time receiving this honor, this might be the sweetest given the turmoil–like a drowning legal battle with Birdman–that Weezy had to endure before he could finally unveil the 23-track project.
In its first week, Tha Carter V moved 480,126 total album equivalent units–140,879 were from pure album sales–and garnered over 433mm streams; these metrics have earned Wayne the third biggest sales week for the year and second-largest streaming week in album history.
After much trepidation surrounding this release, for fear that Wayne might not have “it” anymore, it’s incredible to see not only the body of work that Wayne has released, but the accolades achieved. Congrats, Weezy.
