Jay-Z Teams Up With Samsung For Magna Carta Holy Grail Album

The commercial just aired during Game 5’s half-time show and it looks like Jay-Z has teamed up with Samsung to release a free album entitled “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” due July 4th. Rick Rubin, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz and Pharrell contribute to the album. The catch? Samsung has purchased 1 million copies of Jay-Z’s coming album and plans to give them to Samsung Galaxy smartphone users for free – 72 hours ahead of the release.

Since Samsung pays $5 apiece for the albums, this means that Jay-Z has already made $5 million in sales before the album is even released.

The word Magna Carta is a historic reference, it’s latin for Great Charter, the first document forced onto a King of England by a group of his subjects, the feudal barons, in an attempt to limit his powers by law and protect their privileges. The Holy grail is the chalice used by Christ at the Last Supper, it now refers to an object or goal that is sought after for its great significance.
