Hot! J.I.D & J. Cole Snap on “Off Deez”

Don’t get in the way of their lyrical flamethrowers.

Initially announced the other day with the thought-provoking cover art–a condom enclosing an Oscar trophy with J.I.D’s face superimposed on it–the Atlanta rhymer and his label head, J. Cole, have made good on their collaborative joint, “Off Deez”.

Produced by the in-demand ChaseTheMoney, “Off Deez” is an apt example of what happens when conceptual excellence meets a superior flow. Consistent with J.I.D’s aesthetic, the one that landed him a coveted roster spot on Cole’s Dreamville Roc Nation imprint, “Off Deez” shows 28-year-old lyricist delivering mesmerizing bars that explicitly and implicitly reinforce song’s narrative: stop hating on the kid.

J. Cole supplements the track’s theme by offering his own rewind-worthy verse, anchored in vivid imagery and conveyed by a dynamic flow pattern that reflects the one employed by J.I.D.

An impressive distillation of the old school lyrical mentality and the new wave’s premium on melodies, “Off Deez” represents an encompassing hip-hop approach.
