Guilty Simpson & Reckonize Real Link on ‘Carved From Stone’ EP

Another classic out of the Stones Throw Records camp.

Detroit’s alternative hip-hop purveyor, Guilty Simpson, has carved out a successful pocket for himself in the dense music landscape. Signed to the regarded Stones Throw Record–home to the late J Dilla, Knxledge, Madlib, among others–Guilty has released several acclaimed albums from the indie darling, such as O.J. Simpson, which received an 8/10 from Pitchfork. Produced by Madlib, showcased Guilty’s conceptual and lyrical penchants, and ability to work cohesively with producers.

Just recently, Guilty returned with another solo-producer venture: his collaborative EP with New York’s Reckonize Real, Carved From Stone.

The seven-track project (12-tracks including instrumental versions) is an apt continuation of Guilty’s superior musical command, showcasing the 38-year-old rhymer dominating this purview with witty bars, perceptive thoughts, and contemplative writing. Enlisting an eclectic group of featured artists, Guilty receives assistance from up-and-comer Chuuwee, the experimental Georgia Anne Muldrow, and more.

Carved From Stone offers further proof that Guilty Simpson breathes rarified air, as he’s of a select breed–the one who enjoys longevity and relevance.
