Dave East Makes Official Introduction With ‘Survival’

The temperature has dipped into the 30s on the east coast, but we all know the remedy for the impending winter’s icy touch: some fresh heat. For today’s “New Music Friday,” Dave East delivers his anticipated album, Survival. 

The prolific musical bridge that is Dave East is no newcomer. Still, despite having released 14 mixtapes, the Harlem MC hasn’t delivered a debut studio album — until now. Today, East comes through with his first official LP with Survival.

A proper introduction to the complex lyricist who manages to still trend with younger audiences, Survival is a lesson in cohesive storytelling; it an astute conceptual album. Survival is exactly what the title suggests: East’s journey from the pits of Harlem to the lap of luxury; a vivid detailing of his trials and tribulations, his mishaps and fortunes, all framed through an honest lense.
