Funeral coming soon?

Last year, we received the long-anticipated, often mythicized, punctuation to Lil Wayne’s storied Tha Carter series with its fifth installment. Label disputes hindered its release, but, luckily, its unearthing showed that Wayne not only still has it, but is still innovating and pushing boundaries; something that we thought would never happen finally came to fruition. But the thought of a new Weezy album dropping so soon just seemed gluttonous. Now, it looks like it’s a reality.

Originally rumored due to a Wayne IG story that showed nothing but the coffin emoji, the internet ran amuck with the hopes that this cryptic message suggested a new project. It was theorized that this emoji confirmed Wayne’s promised Funeral album, which he spoke about in detail during a 2016 interview: “That’s my music. Get your roses ready. I don’t have a release date, but I have a whole bunch of good news coming soon. If you’re a Wayne fan, I know we’ve been going through a lot of tough times right now, but if you are a Wayne fan, we about to hold our heads high soon.”

Given the countless Tha Carter V delays, hoping and wishing seemed like the only realistic outcome of this hypothesis.

However, in the midst of preparing for his joint tour with blink-182, which includes a mashup of “What’s My Age Again? / A Milli,” concrete information about this album has surfaced, confirming its existence — and imminence.

In a blurb accompanying the tour’s Ticketmaster page, the ticketing giant said, “Your ticket comes with a physical CD per order with your choice of Blink-182’s or Lil Wayne’s forthcoming album. Approximately 24-48 hours after purchase, you will receive an additional email with instruction on how to redeem your album. US/Canadian residents only. One CD per online order. Not valid for Fan to Fan Resale.”

So not only will Wayne be dropping an album soon, so will blink-182.
