With live shows indefinitely on hold due to COVID-19, the music community has impressively adapted through creative means. Last week, Genius hosted their first virtual concert with Wiz Khalifa; earlier in quarantine, Travis Scott held an immersive Fortnite-integrated concert. And then there is Verzuz — an Instagram Live series pinning two legends against one another. Last night, the battle series potentially peaked by having Snoop Dogg and DMX go toe-to-toe.
Reaching into their respective deep catalogues to showcase their timeless hits, this Verzuz battle was one for the ages. Not only did they eclipse over 500k viewers, but “Snoop” was the number-one Twitter trend last night, followed by “Verzuz” at number-three.
