Nas to Perform ‘Illmatic’ With Detroit Symphony Orchestra
Tickets go on sale January 26th for the March 5th performance.
Nas’ Illmatic is cemented as one of the greatest album contributions to hip-hop. Everyone knows the classics–“N.Y. State of Mind”, “The World Is Yours”, “Halftime”, etc.–and it’s celebrated as much today as when it was released in ‘94; it’s a timeless piece of art. And now fans will be able to see Nas perform it live on March 5th with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
A part of the Detroit Pistons’ Black History Month celebration, Nas’ live Illmatic performance will be the final homage paid to this commemoration, and will certainly be a spectacle. Tickets go on sale January 26th, and can be purchased here.
An outspoken black rights activist, Nas’ anti-oppressive rhetoric took shape on his journey while writing the legendary Illmatic and has continued to mold his perspective to this day. On March 5th, he’ll have the distinct opportunity to apply that iconic album as the crown jewel for the Piston’s Black History Month observance.
