Kanye’s Album Has Finally Arrived
Welcome to ye.
It’s been a rollercoaster year for the man, the myth, the legend, Kanye West. From donning a MAGA hat and befriending America’s mortal enemy, Donald Trump, to making outlandish statements to promote his ideologies, Kanye has been testing his fan base’s patience. But, Kanye is a musical genius, and our relationship with him is one of the most elastic–it will take some immensely drastic measures for fans to denounce Kanye patronage. We’ve been tethered to that musical connection; it’s why we put up with him, it’s why we want to see the good in him. Today, we latch onto that connection with his new, incredibly-anticipated album, ye.
Following his summer theme of releasing seven-track albums, ye’s terse tracklist allows Kanye to deliver a concise project, complete with all the Yeezy staples: soulful samples, dexterous bars, head-scratching lines, discomfort, and, above all, beautiful music.
Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Jeremih, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and more, ye is a fascinating musical curation that hinges upon some of Kanye’s most vulnerable, honest work, laid out over heavily-sampled production. With extra production help from guys like Mike Dean, the sonic texture on ye is dynamic, finding inter differences, but still comprising a defined aesthetic.
While the jury is still out on some of Kanye’s “polarizing” opinions, one absolute cannot be questioned: this man is one of the best artists of this generation.
