Freddie Gibbs & Madlib Tap Anderson .Paak On “Giannis”
“Real G’s move in silence.”
We’re just two-weeks away from the new Freddie Gibbs and Madlib joint album, Bandana, scheduled for a Jun 28th drop. Today, the duo known as MadGibbs has come through with their latest single, “Giannis,” featuring Anderson .Paak.
Unsurprising given Madlib’s storied production career, the “Giannis” instrumental retains a wealth of unique finishes, making a distinct soundscape for Freddie to lace his staple baritone voice. Paying homage to both Lil Wayne and the NBA MVP candidate, Giannis Antetokounmpo, “Giannis” represents how real G’s move in silence, as Gibbs raps, “Mr. Mongol told me, “Freddie, fix up your posture bro / Walk tall and never show niggas more than they gotta know” / Real G’s move in silence like Giannis / My Greek freak, we did a menage with a friend in St. Thomas.”
Reflective of their enigmatic selves, “Giannis” unconventionally begins with Gibbs’s first verse, having .Paak’s hook connecting the first 16 with Gibbs’ second. Dipping into his own lyrical bag, Anderson .Paak provides the song’s third verse, bridge, and outro, as well.
“Giannis” follows the previously-released Bandana singles: “Flat Tummy Tea,” “Bandana,” and “Crime Pays.” Bandana is the successor to MadGibbs’ 2014-released Piñata.
