Common Delivers Powerful Oscar Performance
The influential Chicago voice performed “Stand Up for Something” alongside Andra Day.
Common began his illustrious career with a pensive pulse on socially conscious issues. Facilitated by his iconic flow and poetic acuity, Common quickly emerged as one of Chicago’s technically superior MCs, and also one of its most powerful voices. To this day, Common has reserved his power and platform for promoting peace and equality. Last night, that was on full display as he performed alongside Andra Day at the 90th Academy Awards.
Performing the Oscar-nominated track, “Stand Up for Something”, Common celebrated the fearless dreamers chasing a bigger life purpose, took aim at the NRA, and questioned what life would be like celebrating the silent heroes. Complemented beautifully by Andra Day’s soulful performance, Common proved why he is, and for as long as his time here on earth, one of the industry’s most positively influential voices.
