    When most artists tell you that you need their music, you’re probably most likely to give the artist a half-hearted shrug and make your way to the nearest exit. However, when it’s a legendary producer who has crafted hits for artists like Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg, you’re probably going to stop whatever it is you’re doing and give said producer the time of day. At least that’s what legendary producer Nottz is hoping as he prepares his debut album, You Need This Music, due out October 12 on Raw Koncept.

    Freddie Gibbs

    To classify Freddie Gibbs as “real” is to oversimplify what the Gary, Indiana product represents. Yes, Gangsta Gibbs earned the “real” title by spitting raw street tales that remind the rest of us we’re lucky to not have a problem with the man. But there’s much more to Freddie than that. When you listen to his music, you’ll find much more than hard beats to complement hard rhymes. You’ll find a man who knows what it’s like to experience first-hand the ups and downs of life and is constantly striving to make things better for himself and his family, which is consistent with the true definition of what it means to be real.

    Ayatollah

    Whenever anyone mentions soulful loops and hard drums, a number of producers come to mind. However, only a few are able to take a sample and create an entirely different vibe. Legends like DJ Premier, Buckwild and Large Professor come to mind. However, if Ayatollah is not on that same list, something is wrong.

    Beating the odds has always come naturally to Shawty Lo. In 2005, just as things were starting to come together for rapper who came up in Bankhead’s notorious Bowen Homes projects, he was facing 20-40 years on drug charges. Although he would only serve one year, in the time he was away, the group that he had assembled, D4L, would take over the airwaves with their commercial smash “Laffy Taffy.”

    It’s never easy making a name for yourself as a producer in 2010. As it becomes easier and easier to make beats, there are more fans than ever clicking on keys in Fruity Loops in the hopes of creating the next sonic trend. As a result of hip-hop “producers” being at an all-time high, it’s understandable why an experienced ear, like Duke Da God, the man behind the Diplomat movement, would be a bit jaded when a new jack from the smallest state in the U.S. approaches him.
