HBO’s series Game of Thrones is huge. Hip-hop is huge. I suppose it only makes sense that the two powerhouse cultures join forces eventually. And join forces is what HBO is offering with the second installment of their Catch the Throne mixtape series. The first track they’re sharing is Talib Kweli’s “Lord of the Light” which you may listen after the jump.

After nine albums, one would expect and even allow an artist to start running out of fresh topics and ideas. With junclassic, though, that’s not what’s happening. On his tenth album, Words are Weapons, jun spits fresh perspectives on important social issues complete with his trademark punchlines and acid delivery. From the Maniac-produced boom-bap of “Lunch Table” to the introspective “Babe Ruth,” jun cements his place as a voice to be heard and that he’s only getting better with time. Finding some time on a cold February night, jun sits down with ProfileWild to discuss his tenth album and how his songs and albums come together to social issues like police brutality and protesting the acquittal of Eric Garner’s murderer. Another must-hear interview from PW and make sure you stay tuned after the interview for a dope 730 freestyle.

When your crew is #TheWinners, it’s only natural for expectations and pressure to be naturally elevated. Not only do fans expect you to constantly win, but your own crew expects the same. Hempstead’s SmooVth is taking it all in stride as he steadily drops dope track after dope track, carving his place in the game over rugged beats with the respect of his contemporaries and vets like Roc Marciano and Agallah. From linking with fellow Winner Hus Kingpin and Marvelous Mag to blindly emailing DJ Premier only to hear Preem rock his song on his radio show, Live from HeadQcourterz, SmooVth is earning the respect of old heads and young cats alike. Taking a break from prepping one of his many projects, SmooVth sits down with ProfileWild to talk about his rise as an MC, how #TheWinners came about, what he has to do to be successful, and why Nas’s It Was Written was more influential to him than Illmatic. SmooVth also survives a round with the random question generator and drops some acapella bars to close it out.
