Lake Releasing New Mixtape With His 848 Crew

Fresh off the success of My Brother’s Keeper, Death Row East’s Lake is releasing his latest project, The 848 Mixtape.

“The 848 Mixtape is the beginning of the movement that I’m putting out,” Lake told HipHopGame. “‘848’ is federal talk. Anytime they give you a case, there’s always a code and ‘848’ is the top charge you can get in the system. It stands for ‘ongoing criminal enterprise and kingpin status.’ That’s the highest charge and everybody I’m coming with is that. I’m coming with the hardest on the street. It’s the pain, struggle, murder and racketeering. We represent the people in the Don Diva. I’m working with Mike Delorean, Ruc Da Jackal, Hardbody the Boss, Artillery and Saiku 720.”

Lake wants fans to appreciate the raw content and originality of the mixtape, but more importantly he stresses the unity the mixtape symbolizes. “This is something from Queensbridge that has never been done,” Lake said. “Mobb Deep was from 12th Street. MC Shan was from 10th Street. Nobody has ever come out together representing every block. That’s what I’m doing with 848. Artillery is from Syracuse and Saiku is from Jamaica, but everyone else is from Queensbridge representing different blocks. There are so many people pushing to see this movement be successful and that unity hasn’t been seen in Queensbridge. You’re going to hear the different sounds and hear Queensbridge at its finest. My project represents the best of the streets and the best of the city. This is the new Queensbridge era. This is going to bring Queensbridge to the future.”

Lake is also working on his next album, The Big Ride as well as a Don Diva compilation. The Don Diva compilation will feature exclusive drops from street legends like Rick Ross and Boy George. “It’s going to be something that’s never been done in the game,” Lake told HipHopGame. “We’re going to put all of this into one album and then we’re going to come with The Big Ride.”

Lake is also on the 7th Anniversary issue of Don Diva Magazine.
