What's
up Webb? it's been like a year since we last talked, what have you been
up to in 2005?
Grindin'!!! Workin' on my new project. Rocking shows. Helpin' the End
of the Weak(EOW) Movement expand. Observing RAP music and learning more
and more about the industry. I actually planned on droppin' my new Project
this year, but 2005 ended up being a year of preparation. Progress has
been the theme for 2005. I can't complain....
Touring
across Europe as part of the EOW open mic, where was the craziest crowd
response?
SPAIN!!! the Hip-Hop Headz in Spain are so hungry...I've seen a sea of
6000 people jumping up and down cause we told them to......That's WILD!
The last tour we did was actually the EOW MC CHALLENGE World tour. The
EOW MC Challenge is the illest Rap Contest in the WORLD!!! Emcees are
tested on every level...Written, Acapella, Freestyle (they have to pull
items from a bag and really freestyle) DJ vs MC(you gotta rock on any
kind of beat at any speed) and Cypha Skillz(you gotta trade 4 bars in
a session) ... bottom line it's the Greatest Show on Earth!
Judging
by the crowds the tour attracted does it make you think that the US music
industry sleeps on this foreign market, especially as far as concerts?
A lot of heads are sleepin' on the foreign market. I know alot of artists
who are doin' it in the states, but have yet to leave the country. I speak
to some dudes and they don't even know that Emcees rap in German and French.
Hip Hop is bigger than our blocks and our hoods....it's a Culture that
has influenced people worldwide, and will continue to do so for decades
to come.
Have
you noticed any changes in your style?
I think I curse a little more than i used to. I noticed how excited people
got when i said "Muthafucka" so i put my profanity vocab on
steroids. I've evolved lyrically and technically... every record is an
attempt to take a step forward in the art of Emcee'ing..
In one
of your rhymes you said the NY press doesn't give you love, you also mention
Gotti from the Source, can you tell us about that?
It's not a stab at Gotti or the Source. I actually thought Gotti was cool
the few times we met. I just feel like the Press in NYC wasn't taking
me serious at the time. It bugged me out when I approached the Source
(NYC) on getting a write up...and they fronted on me... but when I visited
the Source France in 2004, they gave me a one page article the following
month....
You're
collaborating with a lot of new producers can you tell us more about them?
Dem boyz got HEAT! My man Shamal Da'Kimm has worked with me on previous
projects, but he has really evolved as a producer. His new beats are on
some next level shit! I got my French HitMen, Flev and Brans are on deck
with that FIRE. I got my German HitMen Niro and IDR. My man Raheem is
one of the most talented dudes i've ever worked with. And my newest producer,
Optiks, is the future....be on the look out for that dude!
You've
got this song with Sticky Fingaz, how did this collaboration happen?
X1 is my dude....he hooked all that up for me...Sticky has been doing
mad movies lately so he charges crazy loot for a cameo, if it wasn't for
X1 none of that shit would have ever jumped off....X1 is one of the realest
niggaz i ever had the pleasure of building with...he dropped mad science
on me about this Industry shit...we got more collabos on deck...keep ya
ears to the streets...
Are you
looking for a specific type of deal to release your music?
The only way to go Nowadayz is the Independant route..I've met with several
Distribution Companies this year from Europe, Japan, Australia, and the
USA.... but until I get the deal that is ideal for my situation, I'm comfortable
with Internet Distribution as well as "Do it yourself Distribution"...good
things come to those who wait...so I'm just sitting tight until I get
exactly what i want out of a Distribution Deal....
You've been grinding for years, have you ever thought about giving
up?
No.
Have
you ever been approached to ghostwrite for other artists?
Yes. I've written for a few cats. I'll do it..but ghostwriting really
ain't my thing.. And most recently I've written for my niece's little
rap group.
What
are your new year's resolutions?
In 2006 i plan on doing the same thing I've been doing for the last 4
years... Working hard on getting my music to as many people as possible.
I'd like to hit 2 new Continents this year and I wanna spend more time
with my family.
