TRILOGY INTERVIEW BY BRIAN KAYSER

10/24/2005

What's been going on lately?

Just chilling, grinding, trying to get this mixtape out more, "Block Survivor." I've been trying to get in the studio and help Liveson with his shit as well. There's four of us now, me, Hot Waterz, Pete Power, and this new kid Sadurday. We're just trying to push that music to all the mixtapes and DVD's.

What role do you play in Liveson Gang?

We play a double grind. If I can help Liveson do what he needs around the studio and handle business with him, we do it at the same time we're working on our music. I'm the first artist to come out of Liveson Gang, then it's Pete Powers, Hot Waterz, and Sadurday. Right now, we're working on the Liveson Gang CD where all of us can come out.

How did you link up with Liveson?

I knew him since I was little, but I wasn't doing music then. I got introduced to Liveson more formally, Liveson heard me spit and he was liking it, and he was like "that's what it is." Me and Liveson started making music a long time ago.

How is Liveson helping to develop you as an artist?

He keeps me in the studio and keeps me around when artists come in his studio from the Hollywood artists to the unsigned artists. He lets me do me, and if something is wrong, he'll tell me. We keep it 100%. He keeps me in tune with what to say and what not to say from time-to-time. He gets me on the mixtapes, he helps a lot.

How is it recording in the Liveson Gang studio?

The studio now is looking good! Liveson's working on it. The location is real nice. Nobody complains about hearing the music through the walls…

What's good with your project "Trilogy: Block Survivor?"

It has 32 songs on it. I have Shells, Nature, Infamous Mobb…beats by Scram Jones, of course Liveson. It's more of a street album than a mixtape. I'm trying to go hard with this one and see how many units I can do before I do a new one.

You got that "Block Survivor" remix with Shells, how is it working with Shells?

Shells is real cool. He's nice. He'll go in there and do 13 freestyles in six hours, and all of them will be hot. Shells is good, he's got a buzz too. We vibe with each other because he don't act Hollywood. When we do a song we have good chemistry.

How hard is it to break into the industry with no names attached to you?

It's hard with the names and it's hard without the names. It's all politics. It's all about gimmicks. I don't do gimmicks. I just keep flowing and stay Hip Hop. I try to meet as many people as possible. I'm still young in this game. I'm still putting in work. I've been working for two years with Liveson and people come up to me and tell me they've seen me on a DVD or mixtape, and that means a lot. I'm not even getting money right now. I'm just sacrificing trying to get in the game. There are a lot of people doing the same thing as me and I wish them the best of luck with that.

Why are you rapping?

I love rap. I used to work before. I'm not going to be saying I was the dude with the bricks and all that. Once I fell in love with rap, I couldn't work. I used to be at work and I was like "damn, I can do this." I didn't feel right being there. I love going in the booth and taking my time. I can relax now. I love rap, from going to the studio, doing the DVD's, all that.

What are your goals right now with your music?

Really, if someone offers me a deal, I'll take a major deal, but I'm really aiming to get a Liveson Gang label deal. If I can get any deal to push that and still rock with the Liveson Gang, that would be good for me and the whole family, because that could be a push for us to open the door where we can get in and just keep putting in more work.

What is Liveson Gang bringing that Hip Hop needs right now?

It's a different sound. I got my own style, we all do. Everybody always claims that they're different, but we do have a new sound. Our sound is very different to people.

What's up with Pete Powers these days?

He's right here, around us all the time. We all put it in together, and if we can spread on our own two, we can do it, and it'll be a different type of buzz. Powers can drop a tape and we'll all be on it, then he'll get on my solo mixtape. We're all just working to expand Liveson Gang more.

What's next for you?

If I get a deal, maybe I'll try to have my own artists. Right now, I don't even know, to tell you the truth. I'm just aiming for a deal or a label deal.

What do you want to say to everyone out there reading this?

If you do the same thing as me, just keep doing it. If you really love it, just keep doing it, even if you have to balance it out with work. You have to always stay focused. And if someone says they're not feeling you, that really doesn't mean nothing because it's just one person out of millions of people. You have to just keep going until you reach your goals and get to the top.
