Your new mixtape S.O.D. is out and doing well. Are you happy with the response so far?
Yeah. Y’all got it up on your website and it’s up on other websites. ThisIs50.com has it up there. I put it up there and in one day I got 16,000 downloads or 17,000. I gotta check. But you know, the internet is the new thing. I don’t even watch TV no more.
Are you online all day now?
Yeah. I’m online all the time, man. I’m on HipHopGame. I’m definitely on y’all’s site. I definitely appreciate you showing me the love. I’m on ThisIs50 and WorldStar. I’m on everything. And then I hit up TMZ once in awhile. I just switch up. But it’s exciting because everything that you really want to see on TV is on the internet so if I miss BET or MTV I can just go online and see it on MTV.com or BET.com.
Has the fact that you’ve gotten so many downloads in a short amount of time motivated you to start working on your next album?
I’m excited. My whole thing is that I’m trying to learn the business like 50, Diddy and Jay. Those are three artists that I look up to, man. Those are three entrepreneurs right there. I’m just working, man. The album, I guess I’ll wait ‘till after 50’s album drops. That’s coming December 9. You can catch me on that. We got a video game coming out in December. We got a reality show with Fif coming out in December. I’ll be on Busted on MTV. I’m trying to get some of that Diddy money and everything is coming up on ThisIs50.com. I’m excited, of course, about another album with the downloads. It’s a different time right now. I think the marketing campaigns for G-Unit are through the internet and through the computer. That’s the best plan for us in my eyes.
When did you start taking the internet seriously?
When I saw 50 do ThisIs50.com. 50 has the talent for doing a lot of things first. I was thinking, ‘Why are these guys marketing us through the computer now? What is this online marketing thing about?’ Then I turn around and everybody has their own dot com and that’s just the thing now. Diddy can talk about how he owns his plane and get 50,000 views just for him talking or 50 can drop a video and get 60,000 views and Jay can drop something and anybody can do that. Everybody has a platform. Everybody can be a star now through the internet.
That can be a good thing and a bad thing.
It’s a good thing and a bad thing but to me, I think it’s a good thing. Because if it’s an artist that you don’t like and you think his music is garbage, then just don’t download it. But if it’s an artist that you do like, there’s artists that don’t have marketing dollars and a budget to shoot a video for the world to see it but they can get their music out and that’s better than them standing on the corner and selling drugs.
Do you think if you and 50 came up in the digital era as opposed to being on the front end of the mixtape era, would you have had an easier come up?
It definitely would be an easier come up because now you can put exclusives out and the whole world can see it out in Germany, London, Paris, Russia, Africa…Everybody has a computer so I think it’s more easier. When we drop any of our mixtapes like Return of the body Snatchers and Elephant in the Sand, people could get it right away. Record companies take longer to service records overseas. It’s way easier for us now because you could put a record out in one day and it could be out to the world. In one day.
What you’re saying is that if you have good music you have no excuse for getting a buzz with the way things are online now.
I agree with you on that. If you got good music then you got good music. I just feel like it’s easier now. We had to get our mixtapes out to the labels and to the magazines before we were signed. We had to build our buzz through the streets. Sha Money and Whoo Kid would be delivering everything to The Source magazine and XXL. That’s how we popped, with everybody delivering things to the magazines and radio. Now these guys are by the computer doing the same thing. It’s easier.
One of the knocks about hip-hop fans online used to be was that they were nerds, but do you see a much more diverse population online now than five years ago?
Of course. The streets are online. MySpace is the biggest thing now. All these dot com’s is what people log onto to talk to girls and conversate and look up stuff and get the news. I’m going to be honest with you, I really don’t watch TV no more. I’m really stuck on the computer.
And when I see my records on HipHopGame it makes me feel good. When I see other dot com’s play my music it makes me feel good.
You remade Special Ed’s “I Got It Made” on S.O.D. How did you approach remaking a classic like that?
Oh, man, that was one of my favorites. I like Eric B. and Rakim and all the artists that started hip-hop. I like the new artists too. That Special Ed beat was just one of the ones that I had to do over. I got on it and I liked the way it sounded, man. I feel like I’m stuck in the middle of hip-hop because I came out with one of the biggest rap groups in the world but now things are changing with the singing and the dancing and the different clothes and you feel like you have to change with the times but still be yourself.
How do you have it made today?
I feel like I have it made being down with G-Unit and having a chance to rub shoulders with Eminem and Dr. Dre because I still respect them dudes. Even when they don’t put out music they’re relevant. Being in the game period, I’m appreciative and all the things 50 did for us. 50’s not a bad guy.
If you look at the Buck and the Game situations, they were both in the wrong. And I’m not taking up for 50 because 50’s my man, it’s just that everybody on this label is pretty good from Mobb Deep getting 20 Porsche’s to M.O.P. coming to the house and recording here and chilling here and doing what they do to Olivia being on hit records to me going on the Anger management tour to Game and Buck making millions of dollars. 50 put us all in good positions. Now it’s to the point where what are we going to do with our careers? We can’t let 50 hold our hand through everything and that’s where a lot of the bullshit happened with the Young Buck situation. He was spending excessive money. 50 had lent him about a half a million dollars and he turned around and he shitted on us. That’s the business. There’s not too many friends in this. You know that.
Do you talk to Young Buck at all today?
Nah. Fuck Young Buck. He’s a bitch nigga to me because there’s no way a nigga can lend you a half a million dollars and you turn around and say, “Fuck you.” And then he comes around and he says stuff about Yayo like, ‘I never seen a nigga so much in 50’s ass.’ Nigga, you never knew me for dickriding no man for nothing. 50’s my nigga and I respect that. If he’s got beef with a nigga I got beef with a nigga. That’ what I was taught. As far as being a snake, that’s not me. I’m not going to act one way around 50 like, ‘I’ll never say nothing bad about you.’
That’s what I saw him say and then he turned around when he was in front off Jeezy and all these other niggas who don’t fuck with you because you don’t have no more money. That’s it. Buck was a cool nigga when he was around us but I always knew he was a snake. But I let 50 just continue to do his business with him. I always knew he was a snake and that when he went down South he would talk bad about us but when he came to New York he would shake our hands and want to be our friend. I was there when he talked about the chain being pulled. I was right there.
Why would Buck do that?
Because you know what it is? You know what it is? The success of guys like Eminem, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, we get on the stage and we feel good and we want to taste that success too but when we sell 16 million records, 50’s not going to be mad. He’ll be happy. I don’t know where it really went wrong with Buck. I really don’t know. But I know the excessive spending is what fucked him up and 50 helped him and that’s when he said something about royalties. And that’s when the phone conversations came into play. You heard Buck say, “I know I owe you on that and I know you looked out.” You heard everything that was there on it.
Were there any other ways Buck was not loyal to G-Unit when he was rolling with you guys?
Oh, hell yeah! He showed us he was a snake-ass nigga. He was talking behind our backs and people would tell me but I wouldn’t pay it no mind. It is what it is. It was all business. Buck was not a friend. He never was and it is what it is.
Do you feel like Buck ever really fit into G-Unit the same way you and Lloyd Banks do or was he always an outsider?
No. Don’t get me wrong, Buck got treated like family but when that bullshit was happening, he was saying a lot of snake shit behind niggas’ backs and you know I’m heavy in the streets so niggas would tell me what was going on. As heavy as you think he is in the streets, I’m in the streets 20 times more than him.
At the end of the day, man, if I lent you a half a million dollars, could you turn around and say, “Fuck you” to me? That’s what it comes down to. I don’t know what the fuck is wrong with people. The guy was excessively spending money. If he sees something, he’ll spend $80,000. If he sees a car in California that’s old school, he’ll spend $40-50,000 to get it restored. If he sees rims he wants, he’s going to go spend $10,000 to go get those rims. That’s just how he spends money. That’s him.
Do you spend your money differently?
Yeah. Right now I’m doing my own films right now, adult films. I got my own dot com I’m doing. I’m doing some things on MTV. We got video games coming and stuff like that.
For instance, I’m going to give you how stupid this guy is. We got a video game coming out this December called Blood in the Sand. It’s a big video company and the guy is going to be at 50’s house at a certain time. We all had to be there at a certain time to take pictures to be in the game. You know what this guy does? He drives to New York to pick up his jewelry. Now what the fuck relevance does that have to do with the video game? So when my check comes for the video game, I’m going to get paid. He’s not just because he missed the date. I don’t see how these rappers and artists think they’re going to make money by sitting around and doing nothing.
What the fuck are you going to do? You still owe 50 four albums. You’re in a worse position than Game. Game is all right because he’s on Geffen and he owes Fif publishing, but what are you going to do? 50 has control of everything you do. That’s why he’s crawling around, asking niggas from our office to send him beats. Buck has been mighty quiet. That means his dollars are getting real, real low. When a nigga’s quiet like that you know he’s going through it. His chain is supposed to be on eBay and in his last interview when they asked him when he was coming out and he said you would have to ask 50 about that.
Why are you going to shit on the guy who controls your shit? I don’t see Jeezy shitting on Jay-Z. But being that I’m in business with 50 and 50’s my man, I’m “dickriding.” That’s why I don’t like Buck because he tries to make me seem like I’m not my own man. I’ve been my own man, nigga. I’m the reason he was signed. He’s talking that I’m so much in 50’s ass. He talks so much shit and I’m sitting here and I have all this information that he had access to and I’m working to get millions. Now you’re fucked up. You can’t get no money from 50. Name one nigga you think Buck could borrow a quarter million to. Jeezy? Who? Who are you going to borrow from? No one’s going to give it to him.
Once you’re broke niggas ain’t even your friends no more. That’s why you see Buck’s broke ass coming to parties. He went to Jeezy’s party and he wasn’t even invited, motherfucker. I know it all, man. Buck don’t want me to expose him. He don’t want me to expose him. He don’t want me to talk about the carjackings and the robberies and all that because niggas know what time it is. Me, I just don’t brag on what I do and what happened to me, but you’re standing next to Game now? He came to New York and stood next to Game and said G-Unit is broke and you give him one of those Cashville watches. The same dudes that he had his watch deal with and the watch he gave to deal came in here begging 50 for the same deal. So let’s get it right. Buck, Game, all them niggas is frauds, man. You can believe them if you want to. I don’t. Especially Buck.
You guys haven’t spoken about Game lately but I’m guessing nothing has changed between the two of you.
My beef is with Jimmy Henchman. Fuck Game. That’s where my beef is. As a matter of fact, fuck Game and fuck Jimmy Henchman. Henchman can suck my dick too. Certain days I feel like this.
And that’s because of the lawsuit where Jimmy Henchman’s son claimed you assaulted him.
Yeah, the trial that I was innocent of. I can’t really talk about it because I’m getting sued. All I can tell you is that I was motherfucking innocent but treated guilty, whatever, because the media said I was guilty. Come on, I’m not going to smack no 14 year-old kid. I know that’s going to be an automatic lawsuit. Why would I want to do that? I’d rather smack a rapper that can’t sue me because he knows he would be fucked up in the public.
Rapper or not, adults know there are huge consequences when you smack a kid.
Yeah. Come on, man. That’s Jimmy Henchman and the Game and everybody trying to ruin our empire but it will never work because it’s jealousy. Those dudes don’t have no money. Game is on his last. He’s happy because he did good numbers on his album. He did all right. It’s cool. But your money will never be where our money is. Game can do good on his album and I’ll guarantee you that I’ll have more money than him.
Did the fans judge you guilty right away in the case of Jimmy Henchman’s son accusing you of hitting him?
Of course the public judged me. Whatever the newspaper say, the people are going to believe. If they say I smacked a 14 year-old, they’ll believe it. I’m public property and people will believe it. The New York Post slaughtered me and they said some real foul things about 50 but I respect 50 because he stood by my side. He knew I didn’t do that and we won the case and now here comes the lawsuit and they want money but the kid wasn’t even injured. He didn’t have any injuries or cuts and they want to sue me.
And then Buck, he goes around and stands right next to him. And remember, Buck was the one that went on the radio at Hot 97. That’s how I knew he was a bitch-ass nigga because he took the side of Henchman right there. That’s how I knew he was a bitch nigga. Buck is a bitch at the end of the day and then he says some shit about us fighting or whatever. Buck knows what time it is with me. I’ll make it hard for him to come to New York and then I’ll come to Cashville. Buck knows what time it is with me and that’s why he’s quirt. I want you to get this interview out to him for all the people out there. And I appreciate it.
Do you think he’ll respond to you?
Yeah, Buck will say something. The last I heard he stabbed a nigga with a fork. That’s not gangsta to me, man. Basically Buck knows what time it is with me.
I drive my Bentley everywhere in New York, in Brooklyn and in Queens. Don’t let these rappers fool you. The only reason you don’t see 50 is because 50 don’t have the time. He’s running a fucking multi-million dollar business. He doesn’t have time to be in all these clubs like all these other rappers. Now me, I’m in the streets every day. If any one of these niggas from the Fat Joe’s to whoever wants to see me, they can. Whatever.
Do you still get love in Queens and throughout New York City?
Of course. I’m in Southside all the time. I’m everywhere. As a matter of fact I have some new videos coming out with S.O.B. I have joints with Max B., Cory Gunz and Ransom. I have those joints coming out and the video game. I get love all over, in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. Wherever.
Why were sales so low for the last G-Unit album T.O.S?
I think the T.O.S. album was badly marketed from Interscope if you want my honest opinion. But it comes to the point where 50 has so much money…I just feel like it was badly marketed but it’s not a problem. My album hasn’t come out in three years and you haven’t heard me complain about no money. Thoughts of a Predicate came out in 2005 and have you ever heard Yayo complain about any financial problems to the media? I own two homes and eight cars. I guess Interscope looks at it like Yayo’s not going to call up here and squabble for his advance because 50’s going to give him his advance or he can go on the road and 50 has a show for $250,000 and he can make $50,000 going on the road with 50. I’m just a loyal nigga, man. That’s what it comes down to.
What would you have done differently in marketing T.O.S?
When you would have went to iTunes the first day it was up you would have been able to order it. We had the iTunes blunder and we had a whole bunch of stuff like a low shipment. A lot of people went into stores and couldn’t fund the album. We was anticipated but we didn’t ship a lot. You know how many people called me and said they couldn’t buy the album on iTunes? We should have had promotion like Nas did two weeks before the album. There are a lot of things that could have been done differently. I really think G-Unit pushed that album independently. T.O.S. is pushed independently from all the hard-working people up here.
Are you happy with where your career is today?
I’m happy. I wouldn’t change anything. Right now I have the MTV reality show and an outlet for that. I can market myself. I think it takes more than one thing to market an artist now. You can’t just say you have an album coming out. Wayne had an album coming out for the last two years and he had all these features that made you want to go cop his album. I think you need more than one thing to make people want to get your album. I got the reality show with 50 and I’m on Busted. That’s the gig I got from being on the reality show. We got the video game Blood in the Sand. I’ll get a check from that and my album is coming after 50’s.
A lot of people are coming out at the wrong time and not doing numbers and I want to build the anticipation and come out the right way. How many times was Wayne pushed back? It ended up paying off for him because the anticipation was that people wanted to go get his album. I even went and got his album because of the anticipation. 50’s movie is coming out with his album so when you get Before I Self Destruct, you’re getting a movie that was written, directed and shot by 50 Cent with the album.
That’s hitting it from all angles.
And then you know me and Banks got our chance to get our act on. It’s not like 50’s not putting the platform there for us. He tells us whatever we want to do to go ahead and do. He tells us if we want to do a Vitamin Water deal, do us. I just started shooting adult films. I came out my own pocket. I just started my own website. I came out my own pocket on that. I use his staff that he pays for for free and they do everything that I want to do. So in the future you’ll hear about a lot of the projects I’m doing and I intertwine with the people at ThisIs50.com so I’m learning a lot about this internet stuff too. These guys work on the weekends. The other guys stop on Friday. These guys don’t sleep.
And you know, HipHopGame, I appreciate this interview because I be on y’all’s dot com a lot and I appreciate you putting my music up. I’m a humble dude and I humble myself. That’s what I like about this business. With artists like Game and Young Buck, the shit gets to their head and you see what type of people they really are. You gotta keep yourself humble, man. 50 still eats beef patties. No caviar and none of that.
A lot of groups fall apart once they make a few bucks. Is any part of you still surprised that you, Banks and 50 are still a team?
Nah. Jealousy is a fucked up disease. You got a lot of jealous people out there. You got a lot of jealous people that don’t like you, Brian. They don’t like HipHopGame. They might not like me. They might not like your girlfriend. I don’t hate people unless you hate me, nigga. All my beefs came from 50 Cent. If you got a beef, I got a beef. That’s just how I was taught. And you know, niggas can judge it. Buck can say whatever he wants to say. I’m public property, nigga, but when you look at bank accounts and credit cards, we’ll see who’s going to be the winner in the next year because you don’t have no shows. Diddy is not lending artists $250,000. Jay is not doing that. But 50 is. So I’m good over here, dog. I don’t know about them other niggas.
Does that fact that you don’t have to worry about money allow to you to put your full energy behind the music and your business ventures?
Of course because I’m just laying back. It’s been three years since my album came out and I’m not mad. It just comes when it comes and when the time is right. Everybody’s career is different but if I’m going on the road with 50 and making $150,000 from making an Africa run, what the fuck am I complaining about? What am I complaining about? If he’s giving me the platform to be on MTV, what am I complaining about? If he’s getting me on a video game and I’m getting a nice royalty check, what am I complaining about? If you’re giving me a chance to be in movies, what am I complaining about?
Let me tell you something, there are actors and actresses who beg to be next to Deniro and the directors. I sat right next to the director. Banks and Buck and whoever were welcome to come too. We just walked the red carpet. You know how I felt when Rudy Guiliani walked by me? This is the guy that fucked up the streets for me. All these people walked by me on the red carpet. Come on, man, there’s nothing really to complain about on this label. It’s just that I think Buck wants to be 50 but he can’t. He was spending money like had 50 Cent money but he didn’t really have it.
You would look like an asshole if you were complaining after making $150,000 on a tour.
There’s nothing to complain about, man. Ask Buck about the Anger Management money he made, his two albums, the money he made. Ask him who gave him a platform when the whole Juvenile thing happened and the California thing happened. Ask him when you do an interview with him. Ask him that. Ask him who put him on. The only reason he’s on is because I went to jail. The only reason him and Game are on is because I went to jail. That’s it. If he wants to do some fighting shit, we can do whatever. I don’t fight. I’m not going to tell you what I do, but I don’t fight. If you run up to me the wrong way on the streets, you can be a rapper or a drug dealer, but if you run up on me the wrong way, I’m going to run up on you the wrong way and Buck knows that.
Will Buck fight you?
Nah, Buck won’t fight me. Niggas just talk tough. He don’t want to fight me. Game is pussy and Buck is pussy. Game is on a talk show. I don’t even believe how y’all media dot com’s believe that he is real. If you heard I was on Change of Heart, y’all would not fuck with me but it’s cool. He’s got a butterfly on his face but it’s cool. Y’all let niggas get away with shit. That’s why R. Kelly pisses on a girl and y’all still buy his shit. I’m going to buy his shit too. Fuck it because that’s just how it is and I’m not mad at it. Buck is a shuck.
All that head buster shit that he’s talking, 50 told him to do that. He wasn’t like that. He was a nerd when I met him. Read my rap sheet. I’m not trying to be ignorant, but read a couple things about Yayo and read these other guys’ rap sheets. They don’t have nothing because they never was in the streets. Put two and two together or you was just a real excellent criminal and you never got a misdemeanor. You was just a real excellent criminal. I just tell the truth, man. Buck is a shuck and Game is a lame and you never hear them niggas wanting to fight me or run up on me the wrong way because when they see me they run the other way. That’s why when Game comes to Hot 97 or he comes to these radio stations out here, I can tell you what he’s driving. It was a blue Escalade and a blue van. That’s what they was in. The streets is watching, nigga.
Do fans perceive you as being an ignorant guy?
Everybody thinks I’m ignorant but it’s cool, man. People want to judge a book by its cover. It’s cool.
Do you still have to win fans’ respect as an artist?
I think one day they love you one day they don’t. I’m confused. I’m public property and I’m just happy to be in the game. I realize that I’m public property and that anybody can say anything they want to say about you. They can love you one day and hate you the next day. I heard Biggie say that.
Are fans losing interest in G-Unit at all?
I don’t even think that. I think it’s all about marketing dollars. If we have the dollars to market albums and the whole machine is rolling right, then everything is good. I don’t think fans will ever lose interest in us. We can have 17,000 downloads in one day and I don’t think that interest would be there if fans weren’t feeling the Unit. I don’t think we would have sold all that clothing. In the beginning I think the people just like something new. Look at LL Cool J’s Exit 13. It don’t get no better than that.
Are you working with 50 on his new album Before I Self Destruct?
He’s working with Eminem and Dr. Dre and everybody. He’s just doing his thing. I’ve just been in the studio watching him. We’ve been working on the movie. That’s done. The movie has been shot. We have a lot of good actors in there. Lloyd Banks is in there. You have a lot of good cats that are actors in it and the movie, it came out real good. I’m trying to get involved in 50’s production company.
On the S.O.D. mixtape you threw in one of your older freestyles. How do you like hearing your older material today?
Oh, man, I like my older stuff, man. That’s when we didn’t have anything. It was just different. The hunger was different. That’s why every day I’m in the streets trying to get that hunger back. People say the hunger isn't three anymore and that’s why we’re doing the mixtapes and all that. That’s why I like to hear the old music because I remember being hungry. I remember my first time coming to Flex and my first time doing XXL and my first mixtape tour with 40 dudes on the bus. It’s crazy.
How have you grown as an artist from the late ‘90s to today?
Now I know the business. Back then I was just rapping. Now I know the business. I know BDS spins. I know if you get radio play you get video play. No radio play you don’t get no video play. I know there’s promotional records and records for the streets. I know a lot of artists come in and it’s just about rapping. A lot of people are onto it right now. I just know so much, man. I just have my overall view of hip-hop itself. The Hip-Hop Honors are out here now and I just ran into Cee-Lo. There’s a lot of artists out here for the Hip-Hop Honors and they paved the way and they deserve it.
You mentioned that you supported Obama on S.O.D. What makes him the best choice for President?
I definitely think he would be the best choice and not just because he’s a Black man. He’s an intelligent Black man and he knows what he’s talking about. I think a lot of people are not casting their votes on color. They see an intelligent Black man up there talking and I think the biggest thing about the election is that it wasn’t only an intelligent Black man but there was an intelligent Caucasian woman in Hillary Clinton.
McCain, you can already see him being President. But you’re seeing Hillary and Obama up there, that’s what got the younger generation watching the debates. You got dudes from the streets watching Presidential debates. You got drug dealers and extortionists and robbers watching Presidential debates because of Obama and Hillary. You got the hip-hop dot com’s putting the debates up there. Obama just made it interesting. You got all kinds of people involved, man. It’s crazy and this is the biggest election that America has ever seen in their life. Come on, man. You see Obama on everything. You see McCain on everything. You see Hillary on everything.
If you could vote would you be voting this year?
Of course. If I could I would vote for Obama, man.
Is it not fair that convicted felons aren’t allowed to vote?
Yeah, I think it’s not fair. They say jail is supposed to be an intervention and it’s supposed to change you. How am I supposed to change from jail when I get out of jail and my P.O. tells me I have to get a job or I’m going back and when I go to get a job and nobody wants to hire me. Let’s be honest. If I got locked up for robbery and you owned a business, would you hire me?
If I was choosing between you and someone who didn’t have a record, I would probably choose the person without the record.
Yeah. And it’s not nothing to be mad about. It’s just how it is. I mean, I don’t expect how people expect you to change. A lot of dudes come out of jail and they want to do the right thing and their hand is forced to do the wrong thing because they have kids and they have a family and that’s the only thing they know.
Switching gears, what’s it like directing a porno?
Everything has to be business because I came out my own pockets. I paid them. I had the camera crew that 50 used. I have a free staff and I took them and I shot my video. My video is going to be called Tony Tours. Just look out for it. It’s going to be a series. You have to keep it professional. You can’t try to have sex with the adult film stars while they’re shooting.
I learned from 50 that when you’re working with females in a female setting and when I hire a female, you can’t even engage them like that. It’s strictly business. I just shoot what I need with the film and I’m out. I’m trying to chase this money, man. I’m trying to be like 50, Jay-Z and Diddy. I want to be in the Forbes with those guys, man, even if I’m 5 or 6.
Are you comfortable being filmed for a reality show?
I love it. I think camera, radio and TV was made for me because I’m comfortable with it. A lot of people get nervous. I just don’t feel that nervousness.
When will we see a solo album from Tony Yayo?
After December 9. Before I Self Destruct is the focus right now. I played a part in that and I played a big part in Curtis. I A&R’d some records on that project and I’m helping 50 A&R this and part of the movie. As soon as that’s done then I’ll be the focus and I’m not a jealous-ass nigga. I don’t care. I don’t feel like I should be the focus now or that 50’s the only focus or that everybody in the office only cares about 50 when it’s not like that. They care about all of us. You just have to be here to get the information, dummy. That’s why I’m in the office every day, doing drops, reading Soundscan’s, reading BDS spins, trying to get my dot com online, editing my movie, trying to get my director to digitize and edit my movie, talking to my accountant, getting beats, seeing what artists are popping online, seeing what artists are popping and catching the battles.
Do you want your next solo album to be different from your first and only, Thoughts of a Predicate Felon?
I just want to tell you my life. It’s not going to be too much more different. It’s just going t be things that I’ve learned. I got better and I kind of know what the people want to hear. It’s more about the politics when you drop an album than just the music. The music, it plays a major part but it’s all about the relationships you have at radio and on dot com’s and taking time out to do these interviews. A lot of artists want to get on the phone with you for five minutes and get off so they can smoke a blunt or talk to these girls but you gotta take time out to talk to the people. |
