Tek (of
Smif 'n' Wessun) - It Is What It Is: The Street Album
DJ Fuck You Intro - That's my boy DJ F-U. That's the next thing out
there, he's straight from Red Hook Projects in Brooklyn. He engineered
almost the whole album. He's definitely nice on the boards. Be on the
look out for him. Anybody that ain't f'in' with him, fuck you. (laughs)
Respect - This is to let you know what your family gets if you fuck
around and go against the grain. We represent DB4D, that's "death
before dishonor." DJ Fuck You produced this track too.
All Massive - That was definitely the joint that was recorded out
in Flatbush, Brooklyn by my boy Sherm Goody. This was produced by Ayatollah.
He came to me when I was first presented with trying to do something solo.
He hit me with some beats and said, "I think you'd do something excellent
on this," and he was right.
Beautiful Ones - I came with this idea from fucking around and listening
to Prince. He said how the beautiful ones always smash the pictures. It's
always the pretty chicks who think they're too good for a black, ugly
nigga like me. "Beautiful Ones" is something I had to get off
my chest.
G-Walkin' - You know how we is out here. We're G'd up to death. We're
trapping and we look good doing it. I put this one down for my G's out
there.
#1 Sound - I wasn't even feeling this one on me when they brought
it to me. They kind of forced this one on me. I had to really sit down
and do this, but now it's definitely grown on me and I think it's one
of my favorite joints on the album.
Hip Hop - I was fucking around with my boy Capone from Capone-n-Noreaga
in the studio one day. I knew I had to take this. I sat down with the
arrangement, put it together, and that's what it is.
Double M - Yeah, that's my joint! A nigga was so frustrated one night
sitting in my crib fucking with my dogs. I just had to do something. I
went into the studio at 3:00 in the morning with DJ Fuck You. He had this
banging nice and loud
I hate a quiet studio. I knew this was for
me. We didn't even have to say nothing. I just started recording right
there.
Image on my Mind - This is one of my favorite joints. It's produced
by my boy 88 Keyz from New Jersey. He definitely looked out. This is one
of his favorite tracks that he's produced. He made this beat in '88 or
'89 when he was just starting. It was an honor for me to do this track.
My Gun (Remix) - "My gun will burn!" This is the Heatmakerz
joint. We were in the studio on 42nd Street. He brought this joint with
Jae Millz and Lawd on it. He brought me this and I had to jump on it.
Young Man (feat. Steele) - This is our little song about getting our
point across. We talk so much about street reality. "Young Man"
is for the knuckleheads who ain't got no big brother or are coming up
in a single-parent home looking for something more on their mind than
guns and trying to get rich overnight. Think of what you're going to do
in the long run because nothing lasts forever.
Nothing's Gonna Change - This was one of the last songs recorded.
This came at the last moment when everything was said and done. They liked
it so we rolled with it.
Keys - This is off the Alicia Keys intro on "Diary of Alicia
Keys." This shit was just so dope and I love how they work with their
music. I had to snatch that up and add my twist to it.
Treat Me Bad - There was a story behind that one but I'm sitting next
to something so beautiful right now that she's throwing me off my focus-game.
We'll come back to that one.
BK Freestyle - This is the Jay-Z freestyle shit. This was rocking
so good and this was to let them know that you can find me in the hood
gambling with them S.Dot kicks on.
Forget About the Past - I really felt that to the heart. You can't
forget about the past because that's going to let you know the direction
you're going to go in the future. This reminds me of where I've come from
and where I have to go.
Smoke Dog Freestyle - This is just sharpening up my shit and keeping
my shit in-tact. That's what this is about.
Can't Do What I Do - You already know you can't do what I do! This
was actually another freestyle off of a DJ Fuck You production. It was
only one verse but then they said I had to put another verse to this.
Bad to the Bone - This was actually a throwaway to a lot of mixtape
DJ's. At the time I was trying to get it out there to them, the song wasn't
complete. It had a Mr. T sample in it. This was around the time Mr. T
was making his big comeback. This was fun to record. This is just us bugging
out.
Give Me Some More - That's with my boy KP, straight from Red Hook
Projects. A lot of people think it's 'Pac. This basically sums it up.
Give me some more, and it's telling you don't fuck with us.
Buy another
one for yourself or your peoples. It will make a beautiful gift for any
occasion. You don't even have to wrap it up. Know that every song is from
the heart. There's definitely something for everyone on the album. There's
more to come, this is just the beginning. I'm back in the studio, on grind-mode,
trying to make beautiful music for the people to enjoy. There's no other
option for me. Stay sucker-free!
