Taylor Boi Entertainment label recording artist So Supreme has more than just a little bit to celebrate about. Like many artists, So Supreme grew tired of the rap game and the commercial music on the radio, which lead to him going in and recording his supposed to be last record, “Birthday”. With the intent to throw the towel in, no one would have guessed that at the moment So Supreme lost faith in the industry, his second chance would be born.
Tell us about your supposed to be last record and current hit record, “Birthday”
It was supposed to be my last record. I wanted to record a Birthday song for myself, kept hearing a lot of garbage on the radio and I was just tired with the music industry. I was getting frustrated with the game and the Birthday record was just a song for me and I said I was done with music. But the last record I was to record was the record that took off.
That’s a great story, how long have you been rapping?
I had single out in 2000, and it took off. “Life's a Beat” took off in 2000 and all of the clubs in Atlanta were playing it. It was like my first introduction to this and how where my buzz came from. But I got in trouble with the law and could not reap in the glory of my success from the first record.
Are you working on an album now?
I’m working on my third album right now, independently and a mixtape - “The Plot, Volume 1”.
What was the strategy behind the promotion of “Birthday”?
“Birthday” pushed itself - a lot of radio stations are getting requests for the record. It’s an everyday record and it’s taking on a life of its own. People know the record but they don’t know me so right now we are kind of putting a face to the record.
Are you originally from Atlanta?
I’m from Providence, RI – been in ATL since 1994. I haven’t been back there since 1996 but I plan to go out there soon to promote my record. When I left Rhode Island I was really young but everybody knows though, yanno? All the clubs out there are starting to play it so its time to get out there and work the record.
Are you content with the current success of the record?
The response we are getting right now is overwhelming and I know we are on the right track. We have had several labels approach me and we are still taking out time because we want to know who we are signing with by checking their track record out and hopefully keep it moving until then.
Can we expect future music to sound like “Birthday”?
Yeah it’s my style, that’s me. Birthday is a record – I have different styles. I make music for everybody. You’ll hear So Supreme on different tracks because I make the tracks – I just make music. If something catches my ears, I’m going to write something to it. You have certain people that only make certain types of music but I make all types of music. I mean you may never hear another song like the Birthday record.
How did you get your name?
I got Supreme from the streets. The S-O actually was given to me by a guy named SO and we got into an altercation one day and he said I reminded him of himself when he was younger and he said “we need to call you So”, so we put the two together for So Supreme.
Did you and Taylor Boi grow up together?
I met Taylor through a mutual friend, they saw what I was doing and knew what Taylor Boi was doing and we just decided to come together on a larger platform and make it one Family.
Are you hitting the road to perform “Birthday” in the near future?
We have a 40 city tour coming up and like the cities that’s playing Birthday right now, we should be visiting those cities within the next week.
The Birthday record is getting spins in Atlanta and other locations, what are some of the other locations?
Man, right now we have about 13 cities playing the record. Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Columbus – it’s a whole lot of cities that’s on it. A lot of cities are playing it and in some cities its 100 spins a week.
Have you been in to talks with any labels lately?
Can’t really say who but I’ve had labels, executives and A & R’s sit down with me on getting signed.
Can you speak on any future collaboration’s we can expect?
Right now we are working on the remix to Birthday and a lot of big names have been tossed out on the remix. The next single is called “Bottoms Up”, it’s something for the ladies.
