5/18/2007: Rsonist HipHopGame Section Part 10

Rsonist of the world-famous Heatmakerz is taking time out of his busy schedule to work with HipHopGame and help up-and-coming producers. Below you can listen to the tracks, read Rsonist’s review of the tracks and write your own review.

Apollo – Round of Applause – There can definitely be more to this beat. I think the crowd noise in the background, if that’s what it’s supposed to be (I’m not sure, but I think it is), sounds too canned. I think you need to do more to this one to keep it interesting.

B-Nice – Fall Back – It sounds like you’re trying to have that “club banger.” Could it work? It really depends on what you do with it. I like the drums on here and it definitely sounds like a complete beat to me. I think it could work for southern MCs, but I don’t see it working anywhere else.

Challie Brown – Tic-Tic Boom! – I like this one for its griminess. The grime factor keeps your head nodding here. I would love to hear someone like Littles or Big Noyd on this one because it’s screaming “QB!” to me. I could also hear it riding on the West Coast, but wherever it goes, it needs to have an MC that can match the aggression of the piano and drums.

D – Piano Shit – This one’s not really doing it for me. The drums aren’t popping like they should be. I also don’t think they match the piano in the background. I think the reverb on the snare needs to be turned down and the kick drum needs to sound like it’s part of the beat. I think you EQ’d it too low. I think this has potential, but it definitely needs to be touched up.

Heaven Bounce – Done Done – Not much of an intro here, but you get right into it and sometimes you have to. I like the vibe on this beat. I would really like to hear this song with a good MC over it because I’d like to hear how they approach it because I think there’s a lot of different directions you could go with this.

Klass-Sick Productions – Can’t Hold Me Back – This is fire, especially for being completely original. I really like this one. It’s not underproduced and it’s not overproduced. I would have liked to hear the beat ride out more. I feel like the intro matched with the beat and that’s very important and harder to do than most people realize. I think you have an anthem here.

Krack Team – Imma Ride – You have good drum programming here. I think you could do more with the sample to really make the song pop out more. You might want to add something else to give it a harder vibe, because I feel like that’s where you want to take the song (or maybe that’s just where I see it going).

Oneman – Jungleness – Interesting use of sounds here. I like this beats. This is one of those beats I’d want to hear on a producer’s instrumental album with no MC on it. I think an MC would ruin the vibe of this beat because this really can and does stand on its own. And this isn’t just to Oneman, but to a lot of producers who send beats in – if you have beats that you think sound better with no MC on it, don’t put an MC on it! Make an instrumental album and hustle that. It’s worked for other producers, and especially now with producers like Ayatollah and DJ Babu dropping instrumental projects, there’s definitely an interest out there for it. Take advantage of it and don’t waste your time waiting for an A&R to get back to you. It’s not worth it.

Phil Jackson – Use’n Me – I think this is one of those beats that need to have an MC on it to really hear its potential. I also would have liked to hear you play with the sample more and make more things happen with the chops. The clap could be a little louder too. You also might want to add something more than the simple clap.

SP-12 Beatz - #242 – Stop running drops on the beats! Let the beat ride out. You’re not doing yourself or your beats justice by having people ramble over your tracks. I really like this beat, but your presentation needs work. I can’t concentrate on the beat because of some dude talking about how dope you are. Next time present yourself with a full beat and no drops, especially if you’re going to be sending it in to get evaluated. Let this be a lesson to everyone else out there sending beats. Be professional. I’m not jacking your shit!

Vetsquad Muziq – Broken Trigger – Let’s get back to it now. This is a hard one. The only thing I would change is I would put a harder snare in there. What you’re using now really doesn’t maximize the sample. It sounds like you’re trying to give it a southern sound to it and it doesn’t need that. You have a real dramatic sample and you definitely use it, but personally, I would change the drums a little.

The Heatmakerz’ compilation Rush is in stores now.

5/18/2007: Rsonist HipHopGame Section Part 9

Rsonist of the world-famous Heatmakerz is taking time out of his busy schedule to work with HipHopGame and help up-and-coming producers. Below you can listen to the tracks, read Rsonist’s review of the tracks and write your own review.

A-1 C.E.O. – Pair I Wear – This is definitely a hard beat. The echoes on the drums are a good effect here, but you want to be careful not to overdo it either. I would really like to hear this track with a different vocal sample and some scratching. I think that would add a much better element to it because a lot of producers are going with the slowed down vocal sample placed in the beat instead of scratched in. The drums are nasty though. I really liked the drum break around the 2:00 mark.

Black 1 – Hot Song – I’m just not feeling this one. It honestly sounds like you were hitting keys on here. Try developing the melody more. Also the trombone or whatever that is just isn’t working here. The different elements of a beat have to all come together to where it seems like they all belong. Don’t let that discourage you. Just keep grinding. No one makes bangers every time.

Dee and Dee Beatz – Another Day, Another Dollar – This one sounds nasty. I’d like to hear someone really spit over this. I could see Game on this one easily. It’s got that great West Coast vibe along with some interesting changes so it doesn’t get boring.

Jdot – Raise Ur Hands – The drums sound way too weak here. You can always layer your drums and combine different drums together. I don’t really know who could spit on this beat. I think you’d have to make a lot of changes to it before you send it out. And after you make the drums hit harder and change up the sounds somewhat, you’re going to want to do a better mix on it because it’s not working right now as it is.

King Midas Beats – The Name – The intro should probably be changed since Green Lantern did Ludacris’ “Number One Spot.” I feel like I should be ducking bombs and flying away in helicopters listening to this beat. Unfortunately I’m not 007. I do like the way you chopped certain parts of this and freaked the drums. I’d like to hear what you could do with another sample because I don’t think this is one to really mess with, although how can anyone tell nowadays?

Marxxx Productionz – Thrown It All Away – Like I just said to King Midas, I’d like to hear what you could do with something else. I don’t think you come off on this beat because it’s too much of a loop. There’s a lot of different ways you could have worked with this sample to really make it crazy because it’s got some great darkness in it. Adding some drums to it and looping the sample doesn’t do the original song or yourself justice.

NutSo – Forever – I like the energy this song starts out with and the drum rolls that come in. I think you could do a little more with the drums though to amp up the energy even more. I think you should try and bring out as much energy in this song as possible because it’s one of those songs that could really get heads nodding. I like what I heard so far on this.

Red Dwarf Entertainment – 45 – I think the quality of this track determines the type of MC you get on it. You really have to get someone who spits because this isn’t a dominant track, meaning you can’t just play the beat and expect people to go crazy. I think it’s got a great foundation for an MC to come in and really come off lyrically on it. Just make sure you find the right MC for this.

Spectacular – 2easy – Wow. I think you made a banger here, homie. It definitely sounds like you’re influenced by Dr. Dre and Timbaland, but who isn’t, really? This track has banging drums and great changes that really make it stand out. I think you have a hit here. Great job.

Young M – Hmm – I really like the direction you’re going here. This is a very smooth track. I think this beat could benefit from a better mix. I think you could bring the drums out more and maybe lower the sample some. I like where you’re going, but the mix sounded like it could be better when I was listening to it on my speakers.

The Heatmakerz’ compilation Rush is in stores now.

Rsonist of the world-famous Heatmakerz is taking time out of his busy schedule to work with HipHopGame and help up-and-coming producers. Below you can listen to the tracks, read Rsonist’s review of the tracks and write your own review.

abiLLity – Hot Violins – Good use of drums. They fit the beat which is great. The changes are nice on here too. Good job.

Beef for Hi-Definit Productions – I Am – I was expecting more after the intro, so I was disappointed when it didn’t really switch up that much. I think this started off as a good idea, but you need to execute more to pull this off.

Caliphat – Oh Yeah! – Ghost used this sample on “Shakey Dog” off Fishscale. There are similar elements to it but I can definitely tell the difference. I like the drums on this. Good job.

Cyph – Champion – I think there could be more going on here. I think this would sound good with a singer on it. This is one of those tracks you’d have to hear done before you say if it’ll work or not. I think it could work.

Daggle – Bravehearts – Good use of drums here. I like the sounds you used and the changes in the beat. I think this could work.

Fresh Airez – Realest Shit – I could see this track working as an inspirational song or a song looking back on what you had to go through to make it. You put some good changes in there to keep it interesting. I’d like to hear you drop the piano out and maybe run just the voices in a segment. I think you can play around with this to make it sound even better, but I like how this sounds too.

MyCurtainCall Entertainment – Lightzout77 – This is an interesting one. Good use of sounds here. You’d have to get a very lyrical MC on this one because I think the darkness in the beat is perfect for that.

Nick Cicero (Cicero Pro Audio) – Get an Army – Nice intro. I think this could be a commercial track. I’m not really feeling the clap on it, but for where this track could go, I think it could work.

Red Dwarf Entertainment – Get Off My Mountain – This track needs more to it. It’s cool to sample, but the key to sampling is to bring the most out of the sample. The sample here gets too repetitive too fast, and that’s not a good thing.

Red Skull – Platinum – Good intro. It doesn’t sound like Timbaland but it sounds like it has some elements from Tim in here, which is normal as you develop your sound. I don’t know who could rock this but I’d like to hear someone try.

RT Productions – Godfather Beat – This one was kind of missing an intro. The drums are hard. Good use of the sample even though you didn’t really do too much to it. Sometimes you don’t have to. I could see this beat being more of a freestyle track.

Sincere – The Reason – This one just doesn’t really do it for me. I think it lacks direction and a foundation. Plus the sped-up soul voices aren’t really in right now.

Bdream – Nitemare – This beat sounds better the more I hear it. I can appreciate how Bdream is trying to be creative on this, but I still don’t really feel it like that.

Beatfanatikz – Be Easy – This one’s okay. I think more could have been done to the sample to really bring it out. Play around with the sample more because the horns sound great but they need to be used in a way where you bring the most out of it that you can.

Da Chemists – Just Another Day – I can’t help but think of the movie Old School hearing the intro to the song. I’m not sure why you only sent such a short version of the beat. If you’re going to send beats, you want to include the whole version. I can’t really comment on this because I can’t hear how it’s going to end and how it really flows. There was one part in here that I really liked, but I don’t understand why you would only send a snippet.

Eddie Kane – The Coming – I like the sound on this one. It doesn’t sound like everything else out there. I think you could find a better snare though. A few change-ups in the beat could really help it too.

G’z ^ Productions – Confused – The Eagles’ “Hotel California” is a very well-known song which makes it not a great choice to sample. And if you’re going to sample a song like this, make sure you utilize the sample as much as possible. I was expecting more changes and it never happened.

H20 – Switch It, Reverse That – This gets repetitive fast. The laser sounds in the intro sound kind of cheesy too. Try switching this up more.

Kae-Bo – Issues – You definitely need a better kick in here. I don’t really like the way the hi-hats and vocal sample sound together either. I think this track has potential if it gets fixed up, but again, this gets very repetitive.

Konfuzion – Devastation – I really like the drum programming on this one. The violin sample sounds good too. I see potential in this track.

PHilGooD – Warning – I really don’t see anyone rocking over this track. You can barely hear the drums. I don’t even think a better mix on the drums would help this one. Then there’s other sounds randomly coming in. I really have no idea what’s going on here.

The Faculty – Ten Hut – I like how dark and menacing this track sounds. The drums are on point and the beat switches up enough to where it doesn’t get boring. I could definitely see someone rocking over this. Good job.

Heatfakerz need not apply.

6th Sense Productions – Chiz Inspired – I like the energy on this one. The changes are good too. It keeps the track from getting boring. I like this.

Bizzy – Don’t Turn Around – Good intro. This sample has definitely been used before but you flipped it differently and that’s a good thing. No one owns loops like Guru said. The drums are good but I think it could have been chopped differently.

Felix Mena – My Way – Not really feeling this one. The intro was too long and it got off to a very awkward start.

Infinite Trax Productions – Hood Hero – Good energy. The drums sound too loud for the beat. A better mix would probably leave the listener with a different opinion.

Samurai – You Know I Want You – This one gets very repetitive. Not feeling this one. It’s a great sample and it could have been used differently.

Slayerman Productions – Piff City Flippers – Sounds too much like Jay and Cam’s “Welcome to NYC” for my liking.

Torch – Foe – This doesn’t sound like it’s mixed right. The drums and music didn’t really grab me on this one.

We Laffin Productions, LLC – The Rapture – I like the drums and the way the sample is chopped. I like the change-up on the hook too. Good one.

Wenard “Blitz” Brockington – Away Too Long – The drums sound very mechanical on this one. I think it was a good idea but I don’t think it was executed as well as it could have been.

X-Factor Beats – Rise and Shine – I like the way the horns play throughout this. I think this needs a little touching up but it definitely has potential. I think a better mix and better drums would really make this one stand out. X-Factor might want to think about changing the drum pattern and adding more changes so it doesn’t get too boring.

No American Idol here.

Bam-Beatz – Epidemic – I like this beat. I think the energy was good and the arrangement was right.

J-Bird – Trap Zone – This will definitely work in the South, but as far as the beat, I think it could have more to it.

Jordan C – The Godfather – This beat is hot. I like the way Jordan chopped it.

Kofi – Dry Emotion – I don’t really know how to feel about this track. I can’t hear anyone rhyming on it but it sounds like it should be in a movie as background music.

Maximus – I Love You – This track is hot. It started off hot and stayed that way. Good job, homie!

MoneyMoss – Nas Would Kill This – This  track sounds too Casio except the little break. It’s regular.

Mr. 747 – Here I Stand – This beat sounds like one big intro. It could’ve been arranged differently and been hotter. Good job on the chopping, though.

Nev – Hood Approved – This beat needs more.

NO Giovanni – Blank – Good idea but bad execution.

Occidental – So Grimey – I think this beat could use some changes and not just when the sounds drops out.

Passion – Arms – The beat is cool. A change or two would’ve been nice though.

P-Lo – She Called Me – I don’t really understand what the intro had to do with the beat and that sample running through it got too repetitive too quickly.

Reasonance – Poetry In Motion – This is India Arie music. It sounds like the music you’d hear in the lounge of a 5-star hotel.

SincereNoble – Walkin’ Through Yonkers – C’mon, homie. After that intro I thought you were gonna get busy. I was disappointed.

StuEnscoe – GOF – It’s okay. The drums are too weak though.

Any heat around this time of the year would be a good thing.

Chris Styles – Good Life – The beat comes in a little choppy, but other than that, it’s a good joint. It could’ve been chopped a little better though.

Cinematic – Street Cinema – This has a nice groove. I could definitely hear an R&B song over this one.

Da Chemists – Riding With Heat – The beat itself is hot!!! I don’t know about the Batman intro though.

DJ Absurd – The Real – I hate to break it to you, but Premier kinda has this style on smash!

DJ Sight – Hip-Hop Since 1988 – This beat has its own feel to it. I like the direction he/she took this one.

E Foxy –What Do – I think if this beat was arranged differently, it would be better than how it comes across. But overall, it was a good track when you listen to it.

Propah – Slow It Down – They have a nice groove going, but it needs more.

Sicksteen – Hope – I kept waiting for the beat to drop. It never did.

Soundprophitz – Dynamics – This beat is okay. It just sounds a little wild for some reason.

The Horns – G.U.T.S. and Glory – This intro had me thinking something crazy was coming and then the actual beat was disappointing.

Vinylsaurz – Talk To Me – This beat is hot! It has a lot of soul to it and it has a nice bounce.

Wavez Productions – Empire – The sounds in the beat get annoying after about ten seconds and it repeats way too much.

Young Blaze – 186 – I like this beat. The energy level is on point. It keeps me interested.

J MarQ – Hit Beat – This beat I really like. It has a lot of energy and it could definitely be sold right away!

J.S. – Hustler – I don’t know about this one. To me, it sounds empty and unfinished.

Jay Quest – Pray – It’s okay, but it needs to be arranged better.

Does the third round of producers have any heat?

Coke – Smooth Sh*t – This beat is cool. It has a Lupe Fiasco feel to it. I know there are plenty of MC’s who would love this type of sound.

Dave Price – Tha Big Apple – The beat has a nice feel to it but those Casio drums messed it up for me. Change the drums and you’re good to go!

Goldyn Chyld – Backstabbers – I don’t know what’s going on in this beat!?!?

Hank McCoy tha Beast – Do It – There needs to be more (maybe a bassline). It just sounds like one long, repetitive loop with the exception of that one breakdown.

Ice~N~Bling Productions – Like That – Off top I like this because it has energy and that’s what a lot of these tracks lack, but the change up in the middle was kind of ???? Overall it’s good.

Knonsense – Warrior March – I like this beat even though you got a little trigger happy (laughs), but it’s all good.

Lef Handz – Lucky Lefty – I like the way the producer chopped this track and especially the way he/she arranged it. It has a nice groove.

Main Problem Child (M.P.C.) – The Aftermath – This beat needs more in order to be finished.

Marcel CarteyJust Bought a Cadillac – Once again, this will definitely work because of where the music is now.

Meddz – Hustle Hard – I like this track. I think the way you flipped the sample was official. Keep doing your thing, my nigga!

Occidental – Drinks On Me – I don’t know how to feel about this one because I personally think it could use more work, but I know there are artists who might like it, so who knows?

Riggs – This Is What I Got – I like this track a lot. I think it has a nice bounce and a creative artist could get busy on this one!

Sabso Soundz – Where I’m From – It needs more. Plus it’s looped-up sloppy.

SimCity – Fresh Air – Since the track is so slow I think the drums could have been doing more, but it’s hard to judge this one since I did the same sample on AZ’s album.

Soop – Lovely Lady – This beat is okay but the drums are lost in the beat. The background music has a good bounce, but with the right drums, it could really bounce.

Streety Dewitt – Fool For You- The way the intro starts, it had me thinking it was going to be one thing and then it went somewhere else. Personally, I think it’s okay, but the sample could have been flipped better.

Rsonist is back to sort through the fire and ice.

16 Blox – Castro – This sample is hot and you chopped it good, but the drums could have been better. They need to match the track more.

Ado Hodzic – Novi Beat 1 – I’m not really sure what’s going on with this track. It sounds confusing. The background music gets annoying fast!

Brett Gelfman – Crunk Shyt – The producer of this track should concentrate on filling up his tracks because this one needs more sounds so that it can change up from time to time.

Heartbeat da Producer – Reunion Special – I like this track. It sounds real smooth and I can definitely see this track getting sold. It has a nice vibe.

J.Rob – Times – This track is cool. It sounds like a Heatmakerz track though?! Besides that, it’s put together well.

Jeet – Snap Bounce – In my opinion, this track “might” work for someone but I think there’s a lot more that could have been done with this track.

Krowbar – The Krowbar – This track is a monster!!!! I like the intro. It was creative. I know this will start a fight in the club

Light Bread – Flip Flop – This track is hot. It’s ready to be sold right now.

Monstah – King Me – Wait a minute, we’re on a roll. This is hot too. Like I said before, pack this up and sell it!!!!

NutSo – I Close My Eyes – This is a good track. It sounds clean and it’s arranged right, and that’s important.

R.Aw Slave Beatz – Evanessence101 – This track could’ve been so crazy if there was more thought put into it. It could’ve been a real emotional track.

Ruben V – Mid-evil – This track is cool. Because of the hip-hop market nowadays, this track will work.

Talos – Brooklyn Hot Sauce – This track is ight but it might have too much going on, meaning it changes up too fast.

The Jake – Win Some, Lose Some – I see what you were trying to do. The only problem is that the sample coming in and out throws me off. If it was leveled better, it might work.

Vanderslice – Click Click – I like this track. It sounds like some smooth, pimped-out shit for Snoop. It works.

Rsonist of the world-famous Heatmakerz is taking time out of his busy schedule to work with HipHopGame and help up-and-coming producers. Below you can listen to the tracks, read Rsonist’s review of the tracks and write your own review.

Beats By Tha Pound – 2Much– I like this beat. I think it would be good for Jeezy. The only thing I would say is try to create a sound that is truly yours. But other than that, I like this track a lot!

Bevil and Outlaw – Alive – This track is cool but I think the intro could be hotter than it is. If the intro was hotter, it would make me appreciate the beat a lot more. But overall, the beat is put together well.

BIGTONE – On The Move – This track is hot. The only problem is it sounds almost exactly like “Piggy Bank” by 50 Cent and the problem with that is that Needlz already has that style.

Bman – I’ma Problem – This track needed better arrangement and more change because after a minute the track starts to bore you. The only way that you should repeat the same bar that many times is if the sample is that hot.

Chinky P – 987 – This track is simple but hot. It’s kind of the way Dre does it, but not too much. It’s still banging enough to make your head knock. You’re definitely on the right track. Keep it up.

Daddy $incere – Ghetto Song – I think the producer of this track needs to work on making the background music of this track more exciting and/or interesting. When you make a track you should act like no one is going to be on it so make it as hot and instrumental as possible.

Dash – Face The Facts – The energy on this beat is crazy!!! There is only one problem. There are parts where the chopping gets a little sloppy and that could throw an artist off.

EK Beatz – Bring The Drama – This beat is hard! One problem though is that it gets real repetitiveafter about 16 bars, but the idea is hot.

Fred Sinatra – Space Lean – In my opinion this track needs more to it to make it a full track. It seems like it’s missing something to fill it up.

G Music – Fresh – This track can work, but I would have to hear more from this producer to really be able to tell if he/she has a definite style or sound.

MAP – So Much Better – Once again, this track is cool, but I wish some of these guys could hear each other’s tracks so then they can hear how similar they are to one another. And that’s no disrespect. I just want them to know the only way to be successful is to have your own style.

Postman – Don’t Stop – This producer didn’t leave any room for the artist to rhyme or sing and it does get a little repetitive after about the first 30 seconds.

Reese – Banga – This track sounds like the actual track never drops in and it gets real confusing fast!

Terrortrackz Productions – The Passing – This track would be cool for a Southern artist but on a production standpoint, it needs more changes and the loop is real noticeable. Even when you loop it, it shouldn’t sound obvious.

The Legion of Boom – Heat – This track is also too repetitive. If you’re trying to keep someone’s attention, changes are key. And if you’re going to repeat the same thing over and over, make sure it’s hot.

Willie Bones – Do You Know Who I Am? – I like this track even though it sounds like the track Just Blaze did for Fat Joe, “The Incredible.” It’s still definitely hot! This is definitely one of my favorites!
