haddduppp, HipHopGame! I’m so excited that people actually care enough to read a RatheMC journal, man. Let me give you guys a proper introduction of myself. I go by the name of RatheMC (1 word and when I spellchecked it, it comes up as “rather” I’m told lol.) I hail from the wonderful city of Washington D.C. I’m obsessed with fashion. My only goal in life is to outdress Kanye. I’m signed to Strange Music under my super-duper producer Judah and I eat, sleep and breathe rap. Literally. I’m tired as hell right now, haha.
I would say I’m pretty underrated right now. A lot of people don’t know I’ve been on this grind for years everywhere from DC, to NYC, to Jersey, to London, and I still get the “Oh you rap don’t you? Oh yeah, you kinda aiight for a girl” hahaha. It offends me and cracks me up every time. Why can’t I just be a dope MC? I always have to be “dope for a female.” On one hand I feel like a lot of male rappers are intimidated by me, as they should be (hahaha just kidding) and on the other I think maybe it hurts a dudes pride to tell a woman rapper, “Yo, you’re a beast!” Because honestly, (and I mean this in the most humble way possible) you can’t seriously listen to my music and say I can’t spit. Different strokes for different folks and you may not “like” my music per say, but you can’t truthfully say I’m not an MC.
I’m really one of those heads who does it for the love of music. This past year I’ve experienced everything from signing to new management, releasing a project that stirred up a lil’ controversy, ripping the mic with the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, performing in LA Grammy weekend and slipping off the stage steps (lol), and of course more hate than a little bit. What I’ve taken from all my experiences thus far is, some people are built for this game and some are born for it. At the end of a week where I’ve been traveling, performing, recording my butt off, running on 4 hours of sleep in 2 days, and very little food, I still want to do it all over again.
Now my take on the game right now is pretty much the same as everyone else’s. Music just isn’t music anymore. Rappers on the radio is partying and living it up but reality is, shit is real right now, and a portion of music should reflect that, and speak to it. I’m not saying every song should be “kum ba yah, lift every voice and sing!” However, I do feel like we’re in some trying times right now and everyone’s fronting like we’re not. So what I’m going to do with that is make the illest album possible. HipHopGame has showed me love since day 1, so with their help I’ll be releasing my debut EP “Real Rap” sooner than later.
Ok, it was absolutely great talking to y’all! I’m on my way to throw down on some Ben’s Chili Bowl! RatheMC, over and out!
