Rain -
Only in America (Behind the Science)
Spell Check - That's the Lil' Kim beat. I was feeling what she did
on her album, and I wanted to do something different. I took a lot of
subjects like The Militia being the next big thing and T.I. not being
the king of the South. I'm not trying to start any problems, but there
are too many dudes in the South doing their thing. I'm just trying to
be creative and make a statement that I'm the best, and I have to spell
it out for everybody to understand it.
I'm Back - Only in America! This is to show people my swag and how
I get it in. I'm talking about how I'm not even trying to be the king
of New York. I made the statement that I can't be the king of NY because
I'm from NC. I'm just letting everybody know that I'm here now and that
I'm trying to create my own path. I'm not trying to be anybody else.
What U Want - This is just me rapping in animal-mode. There's no real
topic, it's just me getting off. A lot of those statements are true, as
far as how I do my thing. This is just me getting off, showing my talent.
I'm so used to doing the ciphers. That's what I came up on, where you
had to have slick lines.
Hell No - Somebody in the industry gave me this beat and told me to
do something to it. I did this in my house. This is the first song I did
without writing it down. I'm saying "hell no" to people that
ask for favors that I'm not really cool with. "Hell no" you
can't get anything from me.
Testify - This is a Kanye West beat. This is to get everybody's attention
about how I came up rapping with Cory and how we're grown up now and trying
to get The Militia off the ground.
Too Late (Prod. by Rik Marvel) - He's one of the illest producers
in the underground right now. He was going to sell the beat, but after
I recorded it, he loved it and let me hold it. This is about it being
too late for everybody to stop me now. I'm here and I'm focused. If you
were going to stop me, you should have done it earlier.
Around Me feat. Cory Gunz - Cory came up with this concept. It's about
robbing people and being hungry. He has the deal, but we haven't sold
any records yet. He came to me with the hook and I threw my verses on
there. I had reached out to a lot of people to get on the mixtape and
a lot of people fronted on me. Fuck them! My competition is on this team.
As long as I reach out to my people, they come through for me, and that's
what it's about. I don't need anybody else.
Under Dig (Prod. by Crack City Productions) - They came through with
a Southern beat for me. I had to rep for the South. I still spit with
my up-North flow. This is just to get everyone to understand how I come
through, how we be in the trap, and how we are trying to get this work
in and get this paper. This is me telling how it is in the South.
Gotta Go (Prod. by M.Rell) - I was trying to touch on every subject.
This one is for the women. This is me telling the girl that she can come
and chill with me for the night, but in the morning, you're out when I
have to go. You're not staying here if I'm not here. This one is a good
one for the club.
I'm So Fly feat. Big Cas - Big Cas is my man. He came through on this
one. I came through his crib and he had the song playing. He had his verses
and the hook already done. This is about how we get fly, throw the Red
Monkey's on, how we come through, and how we stay fresh. Everybody judges
you on your appearance and you have to stay fly.
Top Feels Better - We're all trying to get to the top. We're letting
everybody know that the top feels so much better than the bottom. That's
why I'm grinding like I am, so I can get to the top. This song is about
me trying to get to the top. I mention how the girls didn't want to talk
to me at first but now that I have things popping, they definitely try
to get at me. See y'all on top!
Hard 2 Say (Prod. by Inkredible) - This has a Lauryn Hill sample in
it. This is breaking down what's going on in our community. I feel that
our system is so fucked up. The way that we're living right now is so
wrong and it's going to take someone to clean it up. I feel that us, as
rappers, have a responsibility to talk about it. We have to tell them
about the consequences of busting your gun. Nobody's listening to our
message. I feel that we have to be that voice for the young people that
are out here struggling through these hard times. This is to let them
know that I can relate to them and they're not alone. We need to clean
it up. I'm trying to clear up a couple of issues on here.
Ask Me Anything (Prod. by Lokken Load) - This one is for the ladies.
I'm young and single. I don't have a girlfriend. This is for a girl letting
her know that she can ask me anything. This is just young people kicking
game to the chicks.
Diamonds - This is the Slim Thug beat. I used it for a freestyle.
I have to make sure I rep the South. This beat was sitting around and
I banged it out at my man's crib. I didn't write this one either. North
Cack stand up!
Shoplifter - This is a comedy joint. You know how 50 did "Window
Shopper?" My brother had called me one day telling about this girl
he knows that be boosting! It's a true story. My brother is not a rapper,
but he started singing, "You're a shoplifter." I told him I
would make this a song. It came out crazy.
Jack Boyz feat. Traffic - Traf is my people. He's next up after me.
As soon as I come out, I'm going to make sure he's in a good position.
I was at his spot one day and we banged out this joint. This is another
story about cats being hungry. We're running up in the crib taking everything
for that paper! Watch out for the Jack Boyz!
Let Me Be - My man Marcus gave me this beat. I wrote this song in
a bad mood. I wasn't feeling what was going on at the time and I wanted
to be by myself. Just "let me be." I was talking about everything
on my mind that people think about but never come out and say. People's
feelings may get hurt, but I had to say this.
Heard 'Em Say - This is another Kanye beat. This is more about how
I made the transition from wiling out in the streets to doing the music
thing. I just wanted to put everything to the background and focus on
the music.
I just
want people to feel this. I worked hard on this. I'm not one of those
people that just rush through projects. We did about 40 songs and narrowed
it down to the best joints, and put this together, "Only in America."
Listen for the versatility from the beat selection to the lyrics. I just
want people to listen to everything and feel it.
