The Arsonists were one of the dopest groups out at their peak. The leader
of the crew who handled a lot of their production, Q-Unique is back,
this time on the solo tip. The Rocksteady Rhymer drops a near-classic
debut. “One Shot” which combiness a grimy piano and nasty
guitar-riffs courtesy of Context is Q’s highest-energy track that
will definitely get heads nodding. Necro produces “The Set Up,”
which is a very personal track that has Q giving us the history of his
family’s problems. JuJu of the Beatnuts produces “Diamond
in the Ruff,” one of the best tracks on “Vengence is Mine.”
The track doesn’t have the bouncy, commercial feel that we usually
hear from the Beatnuts. Big Ju also produces “Me, That’s
Who,” which has a cocky Q “daring any devil to go against
this kingpin.” “This Thing of Ours” features Ill Bill
on the mic and beat. If you’re a fan of Non-Phixion, you’ll
definitely be feeling this. There are a lot of deep tracks on here,
like “Father’s Day.” This is not an album that you
want to breeze through. It’s got real bangers on here that any
underground head can appreciate. There are times when the album drags,
but overall, it’s the last album I’ve gotten in awhile that
I consider dope. Who knows if the Arsonists will ever get back together,
in the meantime bump this.
