Preach - Garveyism

Hailing from South Carolina, one would not expect Preach to sound like he does. With South Carolina being so close to Atlanta, you would expect Preach to sound more crunk than he does over his fourteen track debut. Actually crunk must have missed the missed the boat or maybe it got jumped by soul and honesty. Taking the spirit of Marcus Garvey to heart, Preach did the whole album by himself, relying only on a few producers and himself, as he lacks any real co-signs or features. "Revolucion" gets the album started off on the right foot, as Preach calls for freedom over a soulful Nicolay track that leads into the albums best cut, the Midi Marc-produced "South Coca." South Carolina gets a major boost from Preach as he addresses the issues plaguing his state while attempting to put them on the hip-hop map. Jah Freedom laces Preach with a banger for "That Feeling," which has Preach reminiscing back to the days of GI Joe and his first crush. Besides this album just being dope, it's also very cohesive and flows like an album should. This may not be enough to put South Carolina on the hip-hop map, but it's a strong step forward.
