First
off, what made you want to start a clothing line?
The clothing line was started as an extension of my ability to do graphic design.
I've always been an artist and use to hand paint designs onto t-shirts. Then I
found out about screen printing and started getting the designs printed onto t-shirts.
I just wanted to take it a step further and design jeans, jackets, and jumpsuits,
so MOBDESINZ was created.
When did you
start it?
The actual concept of MOBDESINZ was back in 1996, but it was still something
on the side. I did the designs in my spare time and sold locally to friends
and by word of mouth. Since I had a career in computers and telecommunications,
it was something just to do in my spare time. Now I am pushing MOBDESINZ and
taking it to another level.
What have been
the best ways for you to get the maximum exposure for your brand?
I like the exposure I get from letting upcoming artist and DJ's wear the gear
at shows and while they spin records. I believe making people walking billboards
is a great way to influence the trend.
Who designs
your clothes?
I design the clothes myself for now when it comes to the shirts, beanies, jeans,
jumpsuits, leather jackets etc . the "Fallen Angels" t-shirt
designs were done by Miami Kaos, a very talented graphic artist.
How do you keep
your designs fresh?
I'm constantly thinking of new designs and putting them down on paper for future
use. Trying to stay ahead of the game and keeping focus on what the consumers
are buying is a full time job.
What has been the most successful pieces for you so far?
The first design for denim jeans I had manufactured has received a lot of feedback.
I have some leather jackets that were sampled and show to a select group of
people and they can't wait until they are available.
Who do you want
modeling your gear?
Well right now I have some known models working with me. Lizz Robins which had
been featured on TV shows and is actively modeling for her own website (http://www.lizzmodel.com).
And also Grace Rivera, which is a fitness model from NY (www.gracerivera.com).
I am always open to new individuals modeling MOBDESINZ.
What
other clothing lines do you like?
There are a lot of new upcoming clothing lines that I like, such as; Well Connected
Gear, Graff Gear, Rite Productz, Mister Marlon and Full Armor Clothing. The
ones that are already established are Def Jam University, Ether, Phat Farm,
Sean John and Fubu.
When people
see the Mob Desinz tag, what do you want people to think?
People should know that a lot of time and effort was put into whatever design
they are wearing. Long nights to make the concept a reality into something they
can wear. The tag should also be a sign the clothing is made from quality materials
and meant to last.
What's coming
up for you guys?
2005 is definitely going to be a good year. I hope to get the clothing line
into more stores and finally get some of the designs I have been designing on
the "low" onto the streets. There are a couple of upcoming movies
the clothing line will be featured in also: 1. Up Against The 8 Ball - MEE Films
Inc. 2. Street Kid - Supreme Media
What do you
think will be the next trend in urban clothing?
I think you will begin to see a lot more of individuals putting their creative
designs into the market place. People like creativity and one of kind designs.
For someone that has a personal touch and is different from the rest will definitely
stand out.
How can people
cop your gear?
The gear can be seen and bought on the official website... www.mobdesinz.com
There are also stores that are starting to carry the line, there is a list on
the website that will be updated as more stores get on board with MOBDESINZ.
If you would like to see the MOBDESINZ clothing line in your local store, ask
the owners to get it into their stores.
