What
could you point to as being your first Hip Hop memory?
Holla Side Wayzzz
Regular Black Dude Marcellous Lovelace is in the house...wassup Hip Hop Gamers..
Well the first experience i had with hip hop was with my cousin b.k.a Fatnice
of Prophetsoftheghetto.com
listening to records, freestyling, and just enjoying the expression in the early
early 80s like 1984-1985. He introduced me to every artist, element , and all
things hip hop. I love this guy with out him teaching me the diffrence between
truth and fiction i would not be 100%boom bap like i am today. always respect
to Mr. Skurge for the proper hip hop guidence also...
You paint and shoot videos besides rhyming. How do you find the balance
and how do the different mediums work with who you are as an artist?
Well when i graduated
high school i had already been doing all these trades for like 7 years already
i got my first camera in 91 my first songs were recorded in 89 and i was already
Drawing and Painting since i was like 7 years old ......i'm 27 now and i'm a
scorpio ....so i will be haveing a birthday soon. And i've always been into
more action and less talk. Do and then everything else falls into place. And
on top of all that i'm just flowing with creativity the balence is just loveing
myself and what i do no one has to tell me anything.... just positive actions.....
just for the joy of self expression.
How did
you get linked up with Birthwrite Records?
through Pugslee
Atomz who gets respect for being as equaly hungry as me.... he hooked me up
with Overflo (runs the label) and the young man liked my talents ...so he decided
we could help each other because i needed a release and he wanted projects and
the rest is history....i'm now recording with Molemen records but i still get
down with Overflo and Birthwrite records.
On "Music
With Sound Right Reasoning," you worked with memo from the Molemen. What
was that like?
Well Memo gave
me respect when we first met each other....and we also learned that we shared
the same taste in pure hiphop and raw skills..on top of all that we are both
from the South Side of Chicago the illest place in our entire city when it comes
to talent ...two cats that are real hip hop in this day in age and from the
same background is a dope combination he is a true friend and person who understand
my struggle in life. It was a great situation because the Molemen are all hardworkers
but Memo - riza the jeffrey manor blaCK DUDE is a perfectionist his beats will
always shine cause he works in his basement and fine tunes his craft and that
work ethic of being critical is makeing me alot better...good man he made my
album happen by building with Mixx Massace (the arcihetech who took time out
of his busy life to construct my project).much love and respect to Memo &
Mixx ....
Your music
has a positive message without sounding like you're preaching. What message
do you want people to take away from your music?
To always study
and do research on all things that exist this simple yet dedicatedway of life
keeps you aware no matter what origin you are what place you are from. Always
know the factual past don't draw of guessing or acccepting. its a diffrence
between knowing something and believeing something..look up the definitions
to the words....love your self and who you are ......that ends sepratism and
shallowness...nobodies perfect but you do have the right to know to read....emcees
read ....Break the Zombie state and wake up see whats going on around you its
always more then what you see...but you don't have to be parinoid what ever
happens is bound to be but don't kill yourself doing drugs and moving at a pace
that can speed up the process.
You worked
with Verbal on "Change Around." What's it like working with Verbal?
Working with Verbal
is so easy because he always has his rhymes ready to go no matter what and it
don't matter if its low budget or top quality he gets it done ..consistent...Verbal
is a good person that from experience with me he is true to the flow of a rhyme
he knows how to construct interlocking words with a smooth witty voice...thats
just ill to me hes destined to be a top emcee someday if he keeps at.
What's
the Chicago Hip Hop scene like?
It's coming together
more each day...we are like in a seperated city...its cut up in blocks that
are segragated but for some odd reason every one can get to each other through
Hip Hop. Thanks to people like Ill state, Molemen, Chi Rocks, Nacrobats (a crew
i'm in/we are not a group), among others....and Chicago College Radio is a major
tool after years with no mainstream support, the one big station went out of
bussiness that played True hip hop and the head man at that station that supported
that cause passed away his name was PINK HOUSE and the station was 106 jamz...but
during that time WHPK grew with all time # 1 hip hop smith J.P. Chill and others
that are great are WNUR who had Kevin Beechum, Third Rail, and once had J-BIRD
from rhymsayers.... chicago has some underground history that goes further then
i can remeber but those shows helped me .....along with WCRX 3RD RAIL again
and Catch 22 with Realness,WHPK again with Ice Box, Calapsar, Cta radio (Pugzlee
and Thiaone the Davis), Memo molemen radio,VFUNK & kev duce ,Massive and
DJ Eq, Dj Natural &Dan, WLUW with Cosm, Ternaround,Roper, others...And WNUR
with PNS molemen radio, and deluge show, WKKC AND ALOT MORE....
You got
the "2017" after your name. Why "2017?"
Well it means 1
at completion the rest of the math is something i don't like to share somethings
are sacred....2017 is also a time i would like to make some of my personal goals....i
created it in the winter of 1999 when i was living in Atlanta Georgia as a album
first called Got to Rhyme and secondly as a new years resolution type of goal.
so its based on Completion really. 9
What's
wrong with Hip Hop now and what needs to be changed?
Well in my opinion
or from my eyes which is a fact is that people are not creative they are more
quick to bite and follow more then create their own path "Its Not That
Diffikult" (new 12"inch coming soon molemen.com)...its like people
are affraid of being themselves exposing themselves to others....the fear of
not being accepted has forced Hip Hop on the musical aspect into a clone state...and
people wonder why some people get on and some don't....the gimmick factor has
to end its people in position in Hip Hop music to make sure the music stays
neagitive and senseless crape about nothing important to the mind, body, and
soul ..just sex, death, and pain.....its should be a larger room for Peace ,
prosperity, education, growth, development, thought, creativity, love (not the
love in sex) and unity its like this music lacks this and more...its sad but
i refuse to take part in stupidity ..i have family members looking at me and
the youth deserve more...once upon a time a girl named Tamika told me you can't
save an adult fool for the most part...i challengened her logic...but shes proven
to be right...old people get stuck in there ways ..sometimes change is good....
but these children is where it starts so if a kid or adult hears me, knows me,
sees me, 99% of the time it will be peace but we all not perfect but don't let
the bad out way the good .....why breed more ignorance ..the bible said "Good
trees bears good fruit and bad trees bear bad fruit" intesting right.....seeing
is knowing hearing is belief " Music with Sound Right Reasoning" is
my expression of this mission....and my new project on Molemen Records is the
Destruction or the end for stupidity amongst black people and my peers if i
had my way...cause i'm not Jesus like DJ PNS said i have to be sometimes...
i can only play him on T.V. ...proof is positive.. if you see me OUT OF ORDER
TELL ME...
There's
a lot of music out there that is sending out a negative message. Can you see
that being changed?
Well yes if more
positive people came to the forefront and challenged these JIGGY, NAME BRAND
CLOTHES, WASTE MONEY THATS SO HARD TO EARN acting folk...see it has to be a
bigger balence ,ne that out weights the IGNORANCE in reality whats the point
of teaching murder and hate its pointless ...but the truth hurts like i said
thats why i live in it and others run from it...its kinda like DMX be saying
feel my pain....i'm not out here bringing any harm to people ....i don't even
have negative thoughts about people....i went to the hospital at Cook County
in Chicago in July for like the first time in my life because i was emotionaly
drained from like 2 weeks of headachs i thought that was it ...really ..i was
in the little bed and all ...but they told me besides my heart beating slow
and drinking more water nothings wrong i'm in perfect health....so i just come
to the conclusion i'm stressed out from life and all this nonsense ...its like
now you either with me or against my cause and only the elite few really gave
a dern about me i can name all that showed concered my Family ,this guy Cosmo
Galactus,Mr. Skurge(best friend we both left handed ), my old girl friend from
96, hmm Memo, and this producer i created some music with Kevin Fountain a.k.a.
Form (L.A.M.O.N.T. and Restanin Orda)....but you know stress means nothing to
me i usually take all pain and keep going now a days i'm going to end pain by
not even letting it enter....and end crape lifestyles, and dumb music by not
giving it a light.....stupidity is stupidity no matter how you look at it in
a corney guys reality!
The RIAA
is getting at a lot of downloaders now. How do you feel about that?
its a funny thing..some
down loads are good like my www.mp3.com/infinito1 .....but bootleggers get they
leg broke you need to straighten it out like pete rock and cl....see some people
live off this stuff so they need a return and if cats are takeing all the music
then it don't pay...even though money is not my major goal you need to eat...the
government puts us at odds....RIAA can care less about the little man in music
they just watching they own riches....but in reality you can't blame the people
who download because music is to high priced......it should be some type of
Missouri Comprimise with this matter ..just lower the price on CDS give more
people a chance to perform and be on they Music Channels....downloaders are
out cause its cheap...
