12/7/2009     What have you been up to lately?  Lately I’ve just been working on me and my new clique I got from Marcy Projects. Other than that I’m getting these songs in line for these meetings.  But you’ve been doing the independent thing lately?  Oh yeah. There ain’t no help and no handouts. We do this stuff on our own.  Has it been tough getting support or do fans still remember who you are?  For me, certain people still remember and others remember when you remind them. I want my name to stay in their mind where I don’t have to remind them.  Do you still have fans from the Roc days?  Oh yeah. I feel I got a couple of them. I don’t have all of them. I got some of them. Some of them stick around.  For fans who don’t remember your Roc situation, what went wrong over there?  I can’t call other people’s business. I just know my side, the clique I was under, there wasn’t nothing moving. I didn’t want to stick around. I can’t call it for everybody else, but I felt it wasn’t good for me so I left.  When you left, did you have any feelings of animosity or were you just happy to be off?  I left on cool terms because I left on my own wellbeing. Nobody made me leave or told me I had to go and they didn’t need me around. Nah. It wasn’t nothing like that. I left on my own will. I’m not trying to be under somebody for so long and then not be anywhere.  Are you still cool today with everything?  I don’t got no resentment or frustration. When you’re frustrated that’s when you fall off your game. I’m on my game better now than I was then. I feel I got a better chance now that I wasn’t out before. If I had come out then I would have a messed up predicament. I feel like I’m all right. I’m in the right spot where I should be at.  There’s rumors that you’re taking meetings with Bad Boy and G-Unit. What’s going on?  Right now, let me see. I ain’t really got an establishment right now. My shit been off for a couple of joints so I gotta regain that. That’s why I’m in the studio every day. I’m on this grind. I ain’t sitting around waiting for somebody to come and pick me up. I’m a grown man and I gotta get what I’m gonna get. When I get what I gotta get and I see niggas, we can talk. Right now, I ain’t really interested in finding somebody. I’m just trying to get my stuff concluded so I can let them hear what I got and tell them what I need and let them give me what I need them to give me.   What’s a good situation for Geda K today?  I need somebody that’s going to back me. I don’t need to be somewhere where somebody’s mama and a thousand other people are there and you’re not their priority. I’m not trying to be shelved. I worked too hard. How I feel in my mind, my music is better than 97% of the rappers that’s out right now. I just listen and I hear them but what everybody is talking about is what the next person is talking about. I’m not trying to do that. You see one man’s outcome and you try to follow that like you’re going to come out better and you’re going to lose. You gotta find your own route to take.  You’ve seen the major label side and you’ve been working without a label for a while. Do you like doing it all yourself?  Yeah. Right now I really enjoy it. This is where I came from. It keeps me humble and it keeps me above because when you forget that, that’s when you start losing and you lose focus on what you’re supposed to be doing and where you’re really supposed to be at.  Are fans responding to your new music the way you want them to?  Yeah. Any feedback is better than no feedback so I take the criticism and the love and all of that. It just gets bigger when somebody says something and then the next person says something. It’s a good thing.  There’s a rumor that you want to air out Jay-Z and Memphis Bleek.  That’s funny. I saw that a few days ago. I won’t do that. What am I getting out of that? I ain’t getting nothing out of that. I ain’t trying to exploit nobody to get where I’m at and ain’t nobody exploiting me. Why would I do that? If anything they helped me because without them I wouldn’t be known, so I gotta take it for what it is.  There ain’t no truth to that. That’s people just saying that. That’s in people’s mind. They see how other people are reacting and they think I’ll react like that because I know them and I’m from Marcy. I ain’t with that and getting in people’s business, man. Everybody’s grown.  Do rumors like that frustrate you?  It bothers me but it still keeps my name out there, so it’s all right for me. I don’t care. It’s what people believe. I was taught to believe half of what you see and none of what you hear and if it’s a rumor, it’s a rumor. It’s hearsay.  How have you grown as an artist from your days on the Roc to now?  I think I’ve changed all around. Before I had a partner and I wasn’t a solo artist and then H. Money Bags got arrested and I became a solo artist and I had to learn how to work as a solo artist and put them in motion to get vision and give you foresight of what’s going on. Now I’m above all of that right now. I can do all of that in seconds. Sometimes I don’t even write it. I just say it. My mind elevated so much because I never stopped what I was doing. I studied and trained on it so much that I perfected what I was doing.  What’s your process like for putting songs together?  For instance, I came out on “M.A.R.C.Y.” on Clue’s album. That’s the first song that I came out on. That was a verse. That was just me and Bleek. That was letting the world know I was an artist and I was coming out. Then my next song was “Murda Murda” with me, Bleek and Jay and then my next song was me, Bleek and Sig and that’s when I stepped out the loop and started learning stuff and I used to hear a lot. Jay used to teach us a lot. He taught everybody. But if you don’t have an interesting life, what is there to talk about and what is there to follow? My life is pretty interesting.  You were on some cool songs back then. What moment are you most proud of?  The tours and the shows stand out the most but the songs itself stand out because just to hear yourself in places and on radio stations, it’s just a great feeling because you’re coming from somewhere that’s nothing so to hear yourself and then everyone else hears you, that makes you feel good and that makes you up everything you’re doing. You can’t slack when you hear stuff like that. Certain people slack because they think that’s all there is and they think it’s just going to come. Other people gotta work harder.  What do you think of Beanie Sigel dissing Jay-Z?  See, with the Beans thing, that’s like family problems. That’s not nothing for everybody to get in. Everybody else is getting into it and I don’t see what they’re trying to get at when they do it. What are you getting at and what is your point in saying this? That’s not getting you over nobody. You’re saying this happened and that happened and the sky is going to turn purple tomorrow. But the Beans thing is a family thing so you just sit back and let that fall out how it’s going to fall out.  And how I see it, I don’t get nothing out of it. Me and that man (Jay-Z) ain’t on the same page so what am I exploiting him for? To get a little game? I can get that with my work as long as I keep working and my work progresses. But focusing on somebody else, you’re never going to do it. You’re going to stay in the same place you’ve been in and it’s like you’re hitting rewind. You’re going to stay in the same place and I can’t do it.  What’s going on with your new group?  They elevated. See, they elevated. They don’t need training. They’ve been doing this. They came up doing this. That’s what they live to do. All I do is keep a studio in the projects and we all get our songs done together.  Guys like DJ RushHour and other DJs have been supporting you. How important has that been?  That’s crazy love, man. That’s what we need. Without the DJs there ain’t no rappers, so a special shout out to all the DJs because without them, how are you going to make it if they’re not spinning you? Your job is to make records and their job is to spin the records. If they don’t spin them, you’re not spinning.  What can we expect from you next?  Right now I’m working on about 20 mixtapes because I got seven different artists and we’re about to just flood the streets. I’m on some flooding the streets stuff now because nobody’s doing that now and the last person who did that was Lil’ Weezy but I’m doing it with a clique. The last person who did that was 50 and you see where he at now. I’m going to work ‘til our work gets us where we need to be. We don’t gotta ask nobody for favors. We’re going to let our work speak for itself because we got some things and we got what they need. It takes time. Time will tell.
