FAME INTERVIEW BY BRIAN KAYSER

First off, what's good?

Aint nothin..just doing what i do.

Can you give everyone a brief 101 as to who you are?

The name's Fame, here to show y'all what all the hypes about ...born in Orange, New Jersey, just here to make my own mark in history

How would you describe your style?

Mean... I'm just mean.. nah i'm very versatile..I got a wide range..I just write what i'm feelin I got what you need. if I ain't got it.I'll get it.if I can't get it..then shit..

What music did you grow up listening to?

It's crazy. my pops was a real old school hip hop head, so my first words as a child was some old Whodini lyrics I grew up listening to Biggie, a lot of Nas, Wu-tang, and Jay-z.

What projects have you put out on your own?

I put out a mixtape entitled "15 minutes", got a nice buzz round Baltimore and Jerz, and I produced a couple tracks on the D1 compilation and I appeared on 7 tracks.

Can you talk about your new mixtape?

The new mixtape is crazed.. all original joints. I try not to rock on industry beats..All songs are exclusively produced by my offensive line ...it's just 20 bangers...

When's it officially drop?

2nd week of May..Be on the look out. I]m on the creep bastards

What's good with your album?

Man, let me tell you. the album is crazier than the mixtape..There's a lot of real joints...not the same old shit you're used to hearing....My album is a reflection of how i do things, it's a journey through my life. The listener will feel like they're really in my shoes when they hear it for real.

What producers are going to be on that?

My man Ron Knitty, a name that y'all will know soon, he's done joints for Cormega, Flipmode, 50 cent, Lord have mercy, etc. I also got my offensive line, Goodz Debuddha, Coastyn, Dj Jacpot, and Mr. Encore and I'mma be doing a lil production my damn self.

What are you doing with Violator?

My man works up there..Shouts to Hasaan..They're feeling the music. working on setting up some meetings, still in the early phases...ain't much to speak about right now, you know what i mean?

What's the biggest obstacles you've faced being independent?

The biggest obstacles I' ve faced is being overlooked and the struggle. It's hard trying to do this rap shit when you got bills to pay but in the end it just fuels you more to succeed.

What labels would you consider signing with?

I'll sign with anyone who fully believes in me and is cutting the biggest check..I mean one of those life sized pga golf checks, the shit you take pictures holdin up, and I'm not trying to be on the shelf. I'm a top priority...

What would a perfect label have to have for you?

The perfect label would have to allow me to have my own label...I gotta be in total control of how my project comes out how it is marketed, promoted, and all that good stuff.

What DJ's have supported you so far?

DJ C. Mitch, Lord Khaseem, Dj Shorty luv in New York, trying to work some things out with Dj Radio,Clinton Sparks and some others, Dj's get at me it's nothin for an exclusive

What producers have your worked with so far?

I did a joint with Liveson up at D-Block, shouts to Trilogy, Hot Waterz, mad love... I like to stick with my team..I wanna bring the game a new sound....and they work just as hard as me if not harder.. it's a movement this year. this is my summer

What producers would you like to work with?

I'd like to work with Just Blaze, 9th Wonder, Alchemist, Hi-tek,Scram Jones, Dr. Dre, Preemo,Timbaland..I don't discriminate.anyone that makes good music,I'm a beat fiend...i'll work with anyone thats hot for real.

What do you look for in a beat?

I look for a beat that puts me in the mood that Im feelin at the the time, if I'm hyped. I want an anthem beat if I'm feelin grown and sexy. I want a real smoooothh beat. .I gotta let my soul glowww ya dig?

How do you know when you've made a good song?

I know I've made a good song when it's completed and I listen to it for about a thousand hours.I'm my hardest critic cause I don't like listening to bullshit, so I try not to make bullshit

There's a lot of biting in Hip Hop, as a new artist, how do you make sure that you don't sound like anyone else?

I try to come from left field...I've been doing this for years. so I'm not easily influenced by the next artist, I just do me...and do it differently.

What do you think is the best thing in Hip Hop today?

The best thing in Hip Hop right now is the love. That's all we got left, There's love in hip-hop. There's nothing like doing a show. and everyone in the crowd is repeating the hook with you.. That's love.oh and the groupies, ain't nothin wrong with a jump off.

What about the worst?

The worst thing about Hip Hop right now is probably the clones.. Everyone that comes out and does the same shit as the next dude, people hate on commercial artists I can't hate on the music for the clubs, it's music for the clubs, You just gotta make sure you do it differently, There's alot of unoriginality

What MC's from Jersey should we watch for besides you?

Definitely. my man Mr. Encore, also Raviness Rex, Leathle, Loose Cannon, there's alot of talent in jerz...

Finally, when people think Fame, what do you want them to think?

When people think of me. I want them to know i'm real..I'm someone you can relate too..someone you can see yourself chillin with, someone you gotta keep your girl away from.
