Brothel: EP: This is like the quintessential brothel theme song. Imagine yourself walking into the back of a dirty run down building where a password or a knock sequence is required in order to enter. Most likely, this is the music playing while you’re about to make your choice about who’s the pick of the litter amongst 16 scalawags all begging for the spare change in your pocket. An interesting technique was used on the drum sequence. If you listen in your headphones especially, you can hear the drums panning from left to right which was something new for us to mess with.
Spanish Shark (Tiburon): Matter Ov Fact: This joint right here makes you want to sip on some Brugal slow. The guitar has a nice Latin vibe to it that influenced our naming process. Picture yourself in a Spanish speaking country, far from your wife and kids, asking a cab driver where “the spot” is at. Hopefully you don’t get taken to a dark field and stripped butt ass you horny tourist you.
Rhyme 4 Rhyme: EP: When I heard these guitars it struck me as some heavenly chord strumming if that makes any sense. These chords must have been played by the rap lords or something.
Matter Ov Fact: This is the spot that you go to to come up with some shit, kehd. Mine personally is under a bridge as you can see if you search “rhyme 4 rhyme” on our youtube page. Its a very troll-like way of brainstorming but it works fam.
Chants: EP: The Rap Lords came down to us and started chanting this crazy Gregorian chant. Matter Ov Fact happened to have a microphone and an Mbox in his back pocket so we recorded this amazing choir with intent on making something real ghastly. It literally came out the clear blue sky. This is not a joke, bruh. The Rap Lords bless us from time to time. We actually had intentions on making a song out of this beat but decided to let it speak for itself. If you listen throughout the song, there are numerous breakdowns and other instrumental elements.
Dirty Cahts: EP: I’m like those old women who have thousands of nasty stray cats living in their house. I have them running rampant around my lair and I even share the same water out of their cat bowl. “Dirty Cahts” is the peaceful feeling I get when I’m around them. Sometimes there’s nothing to eat in the lair and one of the cats may offer me some leftover mouse. I’m always appreciative. That’s whats up, kehd.
Do Not Touch Mic: Matter Ov Fact: I scream like a bitch every time I hear that high pitch string hit. I try to match the pitch and all that. Messed around and had a neighbor call the cops thinking that a woman was getting battered downstairs. Everybody is going to want to do the same, even your uncle Tony with the deep voice.
Creatures: Matter Ov Fact: This joint reminds me of a drugged out time lapse scene in a movie. I could definitely see time passing as somebody on a designer drug slowly comes back to life. The guitar on this joint is bound to make some people OD.
Riz: EP: This track reminds me of a weird circus with some evil clowns or something. I really love the varied switch ups in the arrangement. I was always a fan of the drums in this beat especially with the record scratch. Fact and I always mimic it and embellish on the way it sounds.
Kevin Spacey: EP: This was some spaced out Rap Lord Gregorian chant from year 3022. That’s how the name “Kevin Spacey” came about. I’d like to have a crazy story about the actor Kevin Spacey coming to the lair and programming kicks and snares on the pads but unfortunately, that’s not the case. Maybe next time.
Skin Flute: Matter Ov Fact: Some people get females to play their skin flute for free but I have to pay for that type of activity. One may think thats sad but I’m cool with it fam, especially with an uplifting beat like this. This joint right here will postpone suicide for 3:54.
Demons: Matter Ov Fact: This joint right here will encourage suicide and death in general. Werd to me, I’ve been having nightmares because of this beat fam. The dark ass piano keys hit hard kehd. We showed one of our people this the other day and homie dropped dead on the spot. R.I.P. fam.
A Haunting Melody: EP: This joint is a culmination of hitting the brothel up, doing a vast amount of designer drugs and suffering from six days worth of sleep deprivation without eating one ration. When that chorus comes in, it evokes chills, kehd. It’s one of our more uptempo tracks which is a rarity for the Dopp gang.
Digging: EP: This joint’s concept has been misconstrued by many. A lot of people think The Ghastly Duo are on some golden age throwback shet, but the song’s meaning derives from our vagabond lifestyle. “Digging” is not about getting your fingers dusty from scavenging through crates, though we do partake in that production process. “Digging” is about dumpster diving and stinking because you’ve yet to clean your genitals. The Dopp gang work diligently to find food and clothing because we’re currently low on resources. You never know. You might find a cool hat or something.
Doppelgang Affiliation: Matter Ov Fact: This track can best be explained by the music video that we recently shot for it. Its a peek into the process of becoming a Doppelgang Affiliate. Black cloaks and candles are a must. Also, my-sized Barbies are a good substitute for real women.
Album Cover: It’s more like National Geographic catching us in our habitat. We were scavenging through this deserted area with this huge incomplete metal structure designed for who knows what. We couldn’t really find much though. I think we found a can of Pepsi with like three sips left in. That didn’t really help much. But anyway, this photographer was out there and wanted to capture us doing what we do and we agreed but stated that he had to send us the pictures when he developed them. That’s how the cover art came about.
Final Thoughts: Beats For Brothels evokes the same feelings that you get when listening to our albums that include our vocals. It’s crazy how an instrumental album can still speak to you in various ways. It can be listened to like a true album. We’re so proud of this work here and we work on production daily so expect many more releases in the Beats For Brothels catalogue. Make sure to support it on Tuesday, January 25th. The physical copies will be available through our site on the store tab (www.TheDoppelgangaz.com/Store) and the digital version can be purchased on iTunes, Amazon, Zune, Spotify and Emusic. Enjoy it, freestyle to it and even get your Based God on and cook to it. We’re really excited about this body of work.
