June 30th, 2003 Hiphopgame
Radio is in full effect. Big things are comin, big props to everyone
that got on me about being on the mixtapes. Fuck payola, these mixtapes are
gonna make sure the talent gets heard, so if you haven't gotten at me yet, that's
on you because it's been on the front page of the site for a minute now.
Damn this weather!!! The Tru School Festival put on by my man Timmy Grins and
Arcane got rained out and rescheduled for Saturday, June 28th. It's gonna be
a dope show regardless, with El Da Sensai comin out for it. Where's Tame One
at? Hit up arcanemusic.com for more info on that.
Manifest Destiny is playing at Central Park On Saturday, July 3rd. You definitely
don't want to miss that. It's a benefit concert that runs all afternoon, and
Carl Thomas is gonna be playing there as well. Hit up http://www.md222.com
for more info.
Gangstarr is finally here!!! Unfortunately I only had $15 bucks and I got the
new Triple 6 Mafia instead. If you had the choice you'd buy that shit too. I
mean, Gangstarr is old and who wants to hear them when you could have the 3-6
MAFIA??? Maybe not_
Don't you just love seeing people wearing chains that you know they bought on
eBay or hiphopjewels.com? I don't go to the mall that often, but how come every
time I go I see dudes with fake chains? That's not cool, y'all need to cut that
shit out. There's nothing that says Hip Hop or baller like a nice plastic chain
and fake rolex. And it's not like those shits are custom made, so when you see
the same design that was in the back of the Source, you're only making it more
obvious. Next time you see someone with a fake chain, don't snatch it, but make
sure everyone around knows it ain't real. That'll be even better than stealing
it, because then the wanksta is gonna have to take it off himself.
Switching subjects, Philly's hottest DJ, Meddafore, has dropped some mixtapes
recently. "Let Em Know Volume 4" has a lot of the current hot joints,
like the Jay and Beyonce collab. The new Redman joint is on here, called "Talkin
to Dead People." What a dope concept for a song. Redman better be coming
with some fire because he's long overdue for an album. More of Jersey's talent
comes through on this tape with the Joe Budden and Busta collab "Fire."
The beat's crazy, it's a definite party track, but I think the hook is garbage.
Joe Budden and Busta Rhymes are on the same track and the best they could come
up with was "there's some hoes in this house, there's some hoes in this
house_" Busta, how are you gonna go at Ja when you are turning into him???
Cut that shit out! Thankfully Busta comes through better on the banger "On
Smash" off Keith Murray's new album. This is a Busta banga! Meddafore is
making noise on the mixtape scene, and he's bringing his Forever Fam with him,
which is real dope. Splitt of Forever Fam opens up the mixtape with a dope freestyle.
There's a lot of talent out there, and its nice to hear new voices instead of
another "exclusive D-Block freestyle" that is somehow on everyone's
mixtape. The more I hear the Diplomats, the more I think of them as one of Hip
Hop's all-time greats_at wasting quality beats. Hit up www.meddafore.com
for more info.
Another hot Philly DJ hittin the mixtape scene is Jus-Def. He's got a few mixtapes
in circulation. "Philly Gully Music" has a lot of the mainstream bangers.
This isn't gonna have a lot of tracks that you haven't heard lately, and the
album starts off with 50 Cent's "50 Shot Ya," and three tracks later
is "What Up Gangsta." I am real real real tired of 50, tired of hearing
him on the radio, tired of his stupid-ass "21 Questions" video. How
about that punch scene, and then the final, dramatic parting shot, where 50's
on the ground looking up at the camera. I laugh everytime I see that video like
it's the first time I'm seein it. Back to the mixtape, I got a little sidetracked.
All right, this mixtape has some certified bangers, like the CNN and M.O.P.
collab "Stomp the Shit Out Ya." That's my soundtrack right there when
I'm putting in my time at Dominos. Apparently ya boy has impressed management
so much there that they got me doin "bubble control." When the pies
are comin through the oven, those little doughy bubbles come up and I stand
at the end of the oven in my fresh Domino's gear (fuck Sean John and RocAWear!)
with the poker stompin the shit out of all those damn bubbles. If you're in
Jersey and you got bubbles in your pizza, that's not my fault. I'm handling
that shit. Anyway, this is definitely an older mixtape, because its also got
the Fat Joe "Take a Look at My Life Remix" and Baby's "What Happened
to that Boy." It's definitely got some bangers that are still dope to play,
and Jus Def does his tapes well. He doesn't scream over all the tracks, and
he blends them into each other, which is something that NYC's mixtape DJ's gotta
do now. "All Hit Radio 2" is another mixtape, and this has newer material
on it. This has the Jay-Z joints with Panjabi MC and the "Excuse Me Miss
Again." Jus Def gives love to the hottest Philly artists after the Roots,
as he's got a Beanie Sigel freestyle, where he sounds real dope, almost like
he did when he made his first appearance on the Roots "Adrenaline."
There's also a Freeway and Peedi Crack collab, "Flipside," which is
a decent party track, and a nod to the legendary Schooly D with "Saturday
Night." His newest mixtape, "Take Dat, Reloaded" has more current
hits, but 50 is still on them. This is definitely the one that you wanna hear,
it's got Skillz representin VA with "Off the Wall" and it's got the
exclusive Jus Def remix of Busta and Mariah's "I Know What You Want."
Holla at Jus Def at www.jusdef.com.
The new Brother Ali gets better every time I hear it. That will definitely be
a finalist, if not my pick, for album of the year (still gotta contend with
Murs and Akrobatik though, and the new Gangstarr and Black Eyed Peas albums
are probably gonna be pretty dope as well). A group who I am really feeling
now is the Written Prisms. They are a live Hip Hop band that are coming out
of Salisbury, Maryland. These guys have such a dope sound, the production is
great, the lyrics are great, I was seriously blown away when I heard their album
"Inclination." Check them out for yourself at www.writtenprisms.com.
Galapagos4, a Chicago-based Indie label, just released a dope single by a producer
named "Meaty Ogre." The singles are "Flibbertigibbit" b/w
"Long Dirty Word." The A-Side is real tight, I am definitely feeling
his original production, he's got a nice sound, and he enlisted Robust and Rift
for the vocals, and they are two up and coming MC's from the Windy City. Hit
up www.galapagos4.com for that.
Tzarizm is comin hard out of Florida. I was recently checking out his album
"Dirty Work" and the man spits flames. That?s an album that is definitely
worth having. Hit up Tzarizm and the whole Urban Jungle Empire staff at www.ujempire.com.
July 8 is coming!!! And that's the day when Abstract Rude and Aceyalone's newest
collab drops, called "Lab Down Under." I can't wait to hear this album.
A lot of it was recorded in Australia (hence the title) and it's got Fat Jack
and Moka Only production. This is gonna be released on Basement Records, who
have put out some dope albums lately, like the collection of Abstract Rude's
rare and guest tracks called "Making Tracks" and 2Mex's "Unreleased
Hits." Pigeon John of L.A. Symphony fame is also coming out on Basement
Records with his second album, "Pigeon John is Dating Your Sister."
I've always been feeling Pigeon because he isn't afraid to rap about anything,
and this new album should be dope. Hit up www.basementhiphop.com for more info.
Before I'm out, I gotta give you a heads up on two labels that will make noise
in the future. One is Omikron Records, with J.Ozonous, who is a very dope MC.
Look for him to be on the hiphopgame radio compilation. You can hit
www.omikronrecords.com to see more of them. And then there's Black
Eye Records, with Space, who is comin from Brooklyn. They just released a single,
called "Phone" b/w "G's." "Phone" is a dope track,
the only problem is that I don't get to hear Space enough because there's so
many guests on both tracks, but the tracks are nice. Check them out. Hit up
ambush444@aol.com for
more info on that.
That's all I got for now. Big shout out to the stupid motherfuckers who designed
the Domino's uniforms. How am I supposed to be a pimp deliverin with that gear???
You got any suggestions, holla at ya boy!
