This has been a
weird week in Hip Hop. Eminems getting divorced, Pras is going homeless,
and Purple City breaks up, sort of. And 50 Cent and Nicolas Cage are doing a
movie together.
So Un Kasa is out of Purple City. Its going to be interesting to see what
happens next. Was this a publicity stunt? I dont think so. I think if
they wanted to get publicity, they would have called out someone. Un Kasa sounded
pretty serious when I interviewed him about what happened. Is this a good move
for Un Kasa? Probably not. He probably should have handled his business within
the group and not made the whole issue public. Is it a good move for Purple
City? Well see. There are so many rappers out there that it doesnt
seem like it would be too difficult for Shiest to pick up someone else. Besides,
its not like Purple City all grew up with each other and have been brothers
before this rap shit. They got together to make money and as long as they dress
like that McDonalds character theyre going to continue to make money.
I really do hope it works out for all of them though.
Why are Jada and Styles still going at 50? 14 year-old girls do not care about
whos realer and who can walk through what hood. Real D-Block fans are
going to support regardless of how many disses get released. Lets not
forget was only a month ago when they called 50 Cent a girl. Meanwhile 50 is
probably on his jet laughing about how much attention Jada and Styles are paying
him. Instead of trying to knock 50 off the throne, the Lox need to really show
the world why deserve the throne. Bad Boy cant be blamed anymore for them
not having an album out. Please Lox, no more 50 tracks. An album would be nice
though.
Props to Busta Rhymes for his New York song. If you havent
heard the song, in its entirety, please go back and listen to it. Its
real dope how he thanks the pioneers at the end. Everybody important got a shout
out, and its time the new school pays attention to that. Im not
saying that you have to rap over Run-DMC beats and wear big chains and do all
that, but lets not forget where this came from. Wu Tang is old school
to the new generation, so groups like Treacherous Three must look like the Beatles
to the young generation. Anyways, back to the Busta song. Someone of his caliber
could be releasing singles with Lil Jon and Paul Wall, but hes dropping
songs with DJ Scratch and Papoose. Busta doesnt have to. Look at his status.
The sad thing is, New York probably wont even cop the album, which is
just going to prove to all other artists that repping New York is a waste of
time. The funny thing is, Ive said this plenty of times, and I have never
gotten an email from anyone saying, Thats not true. New Yorkers
definitely support. There are definitely people in New York that buy albums,
but as a whole, I think wed all be fooling ourselves if we acted like
New York really holds down their own. Plus it doesnt help that almost
everyone in New York between the ages of 15 and 30 take themselves seriously
as a rapper
How about Remy Mas new freestyle Every day Im fucking him?
So thats why her son has to have the Madden volume on full blast. Lets
just hope that he never has to hear that song. Mommy, why does he like
you to ride him like a bike? Yeah, shell definitely have a lot of
explaining to do. How could Remy ever get her daughter to listen to her after
that song? Two of the funniest comments on the song were Her parents must
be so proud and The remix is I got AIDS. At least
wrap it up
Who ripped the No Biting Allowed sign off the door?
I know Ive talked about a lot of corny trends going on in Hip Hop. Well,
heres one that Hip Hop fan probably doesnt know about, but Hip Hop
fan definitely needs to know about it because it would help explain some of
my frustration with the game today. When rappers are starting out, I usually
get an email from them introducing themselves and they send some music. Then
they disappear. A few months later, their manager will email me,
saying that theyre representing their artist. Sorry, but if
Ive never had to go through management to get to Wu Tang, Im definitely
not going through management for Soundclick rapper. I know this is the day and
age when everyone wants to look like they have their shit together, but there
is a right and wrong way to do it. Get your music right before you get a manager,
who is probably just a childhood friend looking to capitalize off you. And if
youve built with me in the past, and then send some dickhead manager in
talking industry-speak, dont be surprised when the email gets deleted.
Its not an exaggeration or me just running my mouth when I say the game
is corny. It is fucking corny. So to all you future rappers, please do not follow
in the footsteps of Soundclick rapper.
And this is just a side-note. A lot of artists have asked me who I would recommend
manage them. Ive never recommended a manager to anyone, basically because
the majority of them are grimy. Most managers are failed rappers. Its
a problem when the manager wants to get as much shine as the rapper they represent.
Isnt it funny how you hardly ever hear about managers in other genres
of music? The game is corny, and if youre a manager that took offense
at this rant, well, you probably deserved it.
Props to Helder F. for winning HHGs March Madness tournament. Edwin F.
had the lead the whole time until Florida cut down the nets. Helder was the
only person in the pool to pick Florida. Matt H. came in third. Props to them
and everyone else that joined, because just about everyone finished ahead of
me. I got run. This was probably one of my worst years in picking the bracket.
Next year I might as well throw darts at the bracket. Id probably have
a better chance.
