Ya know what time it is....it's 730 !

3/24/ 2006

I really can’t wait for Monday to come. Then you’ll finally get to read the Ghostface interview. I put the Ghost right up there with the GZA and Saigon interviews…and I really don’t even big up my interviews even though I probably should because this Hip Hop shit is so corny that if someone makes one small move, it’s like they call everyone over to look at them. You know how when a kid is growing and doing things for the first time and they call everyone in the house over to watch them put the square in the square peg, that’s what these rappers do too. I really don’t care what magazine or radio show anyone gets played on because at the end of the day, it’s really based on who you know. I highly doubt that all those promo cd’s that get sent out ever get fully listened to.

The biggest surprise last week was that I got all the interviews in on time. With the tourney on all last week, I really didn’t think there would be any interviews ready for last Monday or the Monday coming up…well I surprised myself. Do you hear that sound? That’s me patting myself on the back.

Young Jeezy was allegedly in a shootout. That is not good. I think now would be a good time for Jay to step in and protect his most valuable asset. There’s obviously a reason 50 has all that security and it would probably be a good idea to start protecting Jeezy more. His street credibility is already established so he doesn’t have to do any more time.

I’m not talking about Jeezy here. This is just looking at the overall state-of-mind that fans are in. Isn’t it wack how street credibility makes up for a lack of talent? Like if a dude doesn’t have any flow or lyrics, all you really have to say is, “Well, he sold a lot of illegal substances and was incarcerated.” “Oh word? I take back what I said about his lyrics being sub-par.” “Yeah man, this song is banging! I like how he rhymes ‘glock’ with ‘lock.’” Fucking awesome.

Why is Joell Ortiz still unsigned?

Now that C-Murder is free, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens between him and Master P. If you go back to our old interview with C, it definitely sounds like there is some tension between him and P. It’ll be interesting.

It looks like no rappers are really running the streets of New York. A coyote was running around Central Park and had to be subdued with a tranquilizer. Where are all these superthugs with their Acme? Apparently the Roadrunner was sleeping so wouldn’t you think one of these rappers could have just blown the coyote up with their bazooka? Maybe not, I heard there was a DVD filming that night and they needed as many guns as possible there.

It looks like Puffy didn’t cover all his bases on “Ready to Die.” Usually when you cut corners, it will come to light, even if it does take twelve years. And don’t blame the Ohio Players, it’s not their fault. But even if it was the Ohio Players that forced the album to be pulled, could you really blame them? They’re from a different generation so chances are, Biggie’s music didn’t affect them like it did like it did to the kids today. And if you had work that you really cherished, would you really want someone else looping it and adding different drums on top of it? I know I wouldn’t. How would dudes like Just Blaze react if some techno DJ took “Breathe” and sped it up and added all these drums on top of it? I bet he wouldn’t be too happy, and I also think Hip Hop fans may be a little angry when they see that DJ’s album in stores with his “Breathe” remix and he’s making mad money off of it. I know the main argument of all these Hip Hop purists is that sampling is Hip Hop, but there has to be some sort of line. I mean, this is 2006 and there are mad producers out there making original compositions. At the end of the day, doesn’t it look a little wack when someone’s best beats wouldn’t have existed if someone else didn’t make a dope song first? Yeah all music is built off of the music that came before it, and if sampling can be done right then of course it’s dope…

That’s about it for this week. If I’m not as angry as I’ve been in the past, I apologize. I’m still hyped about Duke and North Carolina being eliminated. No matter how messed up my bracket is, at least we don’t have to watch Duke win again. Most of you have to be happy about that. I like UCLA’s chances right now…but I’ll leave the basketball to Clark Kellogg.
