May 27th, 2003 "I'm the
last real journalist alive it's official." Nah I'm just playing, but isn't
everyone tired of The Source and XXL's beefin,
it's gotten so bad where I am considering not reading them at all. I think
Elemental is the tightest ish around anyway, especially with the new
issue with Prince Paul on the cover.
Anyways a lotta drama's been goin on since i last cehecked in here at hiphopgame.com.
First off let's start with the Get By Remix with Jay-Z and
Busta. How hot is it to finally see Kweli
blowing up like he should've three years ago.
Now that Jay and Busta are getting down with him, hopefully that attracts more
people to check out Kweli's catalog.
Speaking of Jay, what's up with him right now? He's been on
a recording tear lately, dropping the freestyle joint that went with Reebok's
S.Carters, then he gets down with Kweli, Beyonce, and Pharrell.
I thought he was supposed to be retiring As long as we're on the Frontin'
joint by Pharrell and Hov, how about
the Kay Slay version where Pharrell's singing is complemented
by rapid machine gun fire. I thought it was a love song also, I gotta tell you
and Kay Slay how pissed I was after listening to Kay Slay's Month of
the Bad Guy Part 1. The musical quality of the mixtape was one of the
best he's put out in a while, because besides having the Get By Remix and Frontin
songs, it also had a Mos Def and M.O.P. collab (I never thought
I'd hear one, but I'm glad they got together) and a new PMD
joint featuring Fat Joe.
However, throughout the mixtape the Drama King keeps playing a conversation
he had with DJ Clue. This goes on throughout the mixtape, and
it's absolutely horrible. Stop beefing!!! No one cares!!! Kay Slay was screaming
at Clue for a lot of things, such as his saying that Justos Mixtape Awards was
garbage, that Clue doesn't go on his own block anymore, and that Kay Slay puts
out better mixtapes. I've always been a fan of Kay Slay, but this was absolute
garbage. Kay Slay, please keep making the mixtapes, but please, if you have
any more beef with other DJs, dont go airing it on your mixtapes. I check mixtapes
to hear the latest, and as far as DJ beefs, I couldn't care less.
A cat makin' mad moves lately is producer A.Sesay, comin from
Maryland. A.Sesays gonna be the next new producer to make it big, and you know
where you heard it first. Check his Soundclick page to hear the beats if you
don't believe me.
I went to the Little Brother and Arcane show
in BMore last week, and it was real tight. Arcane got things goin with their
high energy and then NCs finest ripped it. Phonte and Big Pooh know how to do
a great show, it was well worth the price of admission. And 9th Wonder
has so much potential and talent that it's gonna be scary to see him in five
years. Plus these guys are mad cool.
The Baltimore Hip Hop scene is not a wack scene either, theres a lot of dope
acts coming through, like Digital Underground, Zion I, Ugly Duckling,
and Aceyalone. Arcane is doing a lot for the scene as well, as they
are putting together some dope shows. They will be opening for Digitial Underground
when they come through in June.
I bought Murs' End of the Beginning when it came out and I'm
still feeling that album. I think thats one of the best albums to come out lately.
Right now though, I am just waiting for the new J-Zone, Aceyalone, and
Gangstarr. Plus Tonedeff is dropping in September.
Is anyone feeling the new Sticky Fingaz, I gave it a listen
and I was'nt feeling that at all. The Akrobatik is tight though,
while its been a long time coming, I'm just glad that it's finally here.
That's about all I got for now. Holla. 1
