Ahhhhhhh?I'm a baller baller?nah I'm not at all a baller. Damn, hopefully by
now you've checked out the new Craig G freestyles?Shit is hot!
It's been a minute since I checked in, but I've been busy so I'll make this
one quick. University of Virginia's Hip Hop Organization, which
I'm the prez, just put on the
first Hip Hop Week at UVA, along with another organization Young Black Entrepreneurs
(Mobb Deep what up!). We brought down Babygrande C.E.O. and
UVA grad Chuck Wilson on Monday, for a dope discussion on Hip Hop, where he
talked about his decisions and his advice for making it in Hip Hop. What was
even doper was the BlueBlack of Unspoken Heard was there, and
was part of the discussion as well. Then on Tuesday we brought down Bakari
Kitwana with the Office of African American Affairs. He talked a lot
about his book "The Hip Hop Generation" and how Hip Hop is moving
from a political movement to a cultural movement. That was another dope night.
Then there was movie night, then Thursday night we had a discussion on "Is
Hip Hop Destroying Our Youth." That was very insightful, and there were
a lot of different opinions floating around out there. Then we ended with a
free outdoors show where we had local artists rhyme. Ya boy 730 hosted that.
And that was that. All in all, it was a real busy week but it was definitely
worth it. So that's where I've been. RonDeVu is doing a lot of dope shit. His new mixtape, "C.H.U.D.
(Cannabilistic Hip Hop Underground Dwellers) Part 2." He's got tracks on
here that I've heard before, but his blends are tight. He's got some real tight
blends on here that, you gotta hear his "Never Scared" remix that
he did. Holla at RonDeVu at djrondevu@djrondevu.com. DJ Meddafore is definitely gonna have the people talking with
his latest mixtape, "Get 'Em Talkin" which is hosted by Slumlord.
Slumlord is nice, he's got a few tracks on here. Splitt (read next paragraph
too) drops some heat on here as well. The Obie and 50 "Hustler"
track is pretty dope. Jay-Z getting on the "Can't Stop
Won't Stop Remix" is a good look. But how are they gonna use the "Grindin"
beat? They bit the Neptunes enough with the beat already. "Shot Down"
is a crazy track with 50, DMX, and Styles P. Shit is real hot. The cover is
hot too. I like that too, it's got the famous Britney/Madonna kiss. Nuff said
about that. Holla at Medd for the mixtape, meddafore@aol.com. Splitt, who's down with DJ Meddafore and the Forever Fam, just
put out a freestyle mixtape. It's a dope album, Splitt's definitely got the
skills. And he's been on a bunch of mixtapes. Besides Meddafore, he's been on
DJ Efn, DJ Menace, Big Herdie, and some more. But he's doing his thing, don't
sleep on Splitt, he's got a lot of dope material out, and he's starting to get
a buzz going, as he's repping Philly.
Damn, better highlight Philadelphia on the Hip Hop map, look at the cats comin
out of there: Jedi Mind Tricks, Last Emperor, Side Effect, and Splitt. Damn!
