I'm glad he decided on a date...hopefully he'll be able to stick to it. Personally I was dissapointed with "The Beautiful Struggle" so i'm expecting this album to impress.
Should be dope.
Talib Kweli Finally Sets July 24th The Date For The Anticipated Album"Eardrum"
BROOKLYN MC, Talib Kweli, will release his third solo album, Ear Drum, on July 24 on Warner Bros./Blacksmith Music. The LP is Kweli’s first since 2004’s The Beautiful Struggle and will feature production from Kanye West, Madlib, will.i.am and DJ Hi-Tek.
“The image of the ear and of the drum, which are powerful enough by themselves, but put them together and it’s an instrument in your body that helps you hear,” Kweli says of the album’s title. “They’re also two very simple, yet powerful words. I wanted to focus on finding a sound that makes you move, and that’s where the word eardrum popped in my head.”
Standout songs on the album include “Soon The New Day,” which features Norah Jones, “Say Something” with Jean Grae and “the sexy first single,” “Hot Thing.” “We need to challenge our audience,” Kweli says on the album’s direction. “But we also need to challenge ourselves to know that whatever our new experiences are, we can write about them, be creative, and bring that to an audience without them feeling alienated.”
I was told you either you stand or you fall
As long as you know when you walk your holding hands with a God
That alone can turn the dark to a walk in the park
I only talk from my heart
So open doors when your listening
Everyman has his own heaven the difference is the way he envisions it
So if you make you heaven picture less
By the time you die you be drifting in a imageless field
So build your heaven full of bless & thoughts, that's real - Blu

Yeah that joint he did with John Legend is really good.
With these lessons that i am learning i put my pride to the side.
That joint he did with that Kanye West beat "In th Mood" is hot too. I'ma cop this. 2007's gotten off to a rocky start. But with this album, the Marco Polo Port Authority album, Common's Finding Forever, Cormega's The Inevitable, Wu-Tang Clan's 8 Diagrams, maybe this won't be such a bad year.
will more or less be on ths? cuz thats a dope ass song

Plus Lupe's "The Cool", Little Brother's "GetBack", Loj's "No Labels", and Saigon's "Great Story" should round this year out. Hopefully they don't get pushed back more.Originally Posted by Blackman

Hope its good, everything I've heard so far been good. BS wasn't bad it was just too bland to have any replay value.
Kweli will kill it..... I expect no less

"YOU CAN SMELL THE FUNK WHEN THE MASTA FLEX" - REDMAN
after the blacksmith mixtape and madlib project, im highly anticipating. i thnk he's one of the most consistent artists in hiphop. BS's no Quality but overall its a solid album.
TALIB KWELI IS VERY GOOD. I CAN'T WAIT 4 THIS ALBUM 2 COME OUT
Kweli fell off after Quality. He's yet to really impress me since Train of Thought (besides Get By). He's collaborating with artists who I don't think complement him well, his tracks are watering down to cater to the masses, and his lyrics are bland for the most part. But I'll still give this at least a spin...
Mos's solo albums > Talib's. Having said that, they need to drop another Black Star album.
You can't say he fell off, he hasn't even got a chance to come back from the below average 'The Beautiful Struggle'.Originally Posted by MCsquared05
'Liberation' was more of a mixtape rather then a album, I'm having high hopes for 'Ear Drum' because I'm sure lyrically Kweli will bring it & the production list looks very hopeful of being great.

'Quality' was a good album. Almost a great album. 'Reflection Eternal' is a great album. 'Blackstar' is not as good as 'Reflection Eternal'. None of Mos Def's albums are good. None of them! I totally agree that Kweli fell off. That last album is fucking terrible. The 'Blacksmitch Movement' mixtape was garbage. The songs I've heard from the new album have been serious though. 'Country Cousins' featuring UGK is big. 'Listen' is big. There are a couple of others. The Madlib collaboration album was pretty good for Kweli, it was a little bit boring overall. Unfortunately Common's got Kweli's production.

In short, I think Kweli fell off because Quality was a sharp dip in quality, for lack of a better word, in his music. And personally, I think Black on Both Sides is a much better album than Train of Thought (Reflection Eternal is the duo of Kweli and Hi-Tek) in almost every facet.
I also just don't think Kanye West's production is a good look for the conscious hip hop movement (other than the 'Get By' and 'Be' beats). Kanye West is too polished of a producer and his beats are mostly airy. Their early production was raw and dark (the jazz influence), which I liked better with their style.

I think the raw, dark, jazzy style is best made by Madlib, who Kweli just recorded a full-length with. I don't personally consider Kweli a "Conscious" rapper. I consider him a reality rapper... when he's good he's a reality rapper. When he's shit he's The Game "Something something Paris Hilton... something something Lindsay Lohan" shit's gay. 'Quality' was about Talib Kweli, his life, his soul, that's what made it great. 'Reflection Eternal' was far more broad than that.
"Most equate success with imitating these crackers" GREAT LINE!
I'd call Mos Def conscious. But I'd also call him "arse hole". 'Black On Both Sides' could well be the biggest disappointment in rap history to me.
