He fought a very smart fight. You do not win the whole thing in one fight. He took a dangerous striker to the ground and beat the most experienced fighter beside himself
He took him down twice but never really did any damage on the ground.

mazzagatti once again proves that he is straight balls when it comes to reffing. He fucking sucks and shouldn't be reffing anymore.
Cain would have eventually won but it was an awful stoppage.

I'm loving reading the sherdog forums right now. Everyone is losing their shit over the decision.

Machida doesn't deserve a rematch yet.Originally Posted by Cowboy13012

Holy crap that was horrific. How anyone thought Machida won that fight is seriously beyond me. Easily the worst decision I have ever seen.
And the Cain/Rothwell stoppage was bullshit. But Cain was absolutely destroying him so it just saved us from watching an extended mauling.
You goin to the fedor fight, Mid? Or anyone else in Illinois?

I wanted an extended mauling! Cain's a beast and the fight went just how I thought it would.Originally Posted by G8tors

I gotta say, Cain really showed something in that fight. I thought he was somewhat of an unknown going in. He beat Kongo, because Kongo obviously has never had to fight off his back before. Besides that he really had not beat anyone. But he destroyed Rothwell. Rothwell looked totally outclassed in every aspect of the fight.

My review of the PPV
Once again time for my report on the happenings of a UFC PPV. This time we are on UFC 104 live from LA. We get a pretty star studded showing with such stars as Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, David Spade, and others.
The first fight of the evening was Anthony "Rumble" Johnson vs Yoshiyuki Yoshida. This fight was already controversial because Rumble came in 6 pounds overweight. There was a very obvious size difference between the two. Rumble looked like he could easily fight LW tonight. The fight was heavily one sided with Johnson just hammering Yoshida. The end came 41 seconds in the 1st round with Rumble Johnson winning via KO.
The second fight was Joe "Daddy" Stevenson vs Spencer Fisher. Round one was dominated by Stevenson's wrestling. The second round was much of the same with Stevenson taking down Spencer and trapping one of his arms and repeatedly punching him in the face until Herb Dean was forced to stop the fight. Stevenson wins at the 4:03 mark of round 2 by stoppage.
The third fight was Josh Neer vs Gleison Tibau. Both fighters came in overweight and agreed to a catch-weight of 157 pounds. Tibau showed some serious takedowns throughout all 3 rounds. He was able to pick Neer completely off the ground and slam him down. Neer was able to avoid any serious damage after the slams with his guard. His guard proved to not be enough and Gleison Tibau wins by unanimous decision.
The Co-Main Event of the Evening was Cain Velasquez vs Ben Rothwell. Cain completely dominated the entire fight with his superior wrestling. He was able to take down Rothwell at will. The second round was no different. He was able to get Rothwell against the fence and land shots to his face with Rothwell not defending. Mazzagatti called an end to the fight at the 58 second mark of the 2nd round. Rothwell was very upset at the stoppage and I can't say I blame him. Mazzagatti is known as a terrible referee and this does not help his image. I also agree that it was a bad stoppage because Rothwell was standing up while taking the punches.
The other Co-Main Event of the Evening was Lyoto Machida (champion) vs Mauricio "Shogun" Rua for the Light Heavyweight Championship. The first round was Shogun landing a lot of leg shots and body shots on Machida and out countering the countering king. The second round Machida managed to push the action and get in a little more offense than Rua but not by much. The third, fourth, and fifth round were a lot like the first round. Rua was able to control the fight with counter attacks. The fight lasted all 5 rounds and went to decision. The judges came back with a unanimous decision at 48-47 for the winner and still Light Heavyweight Champion of the World Lyoto Machida. The live crowd was very upset, and understandably so, about the decision. Machida said it was a unanimous decision so he believed he won the fight. Rua was classy in defeat and did not comment on the decision. There are many people who are very upset with the decision and some even think Shogun won all 5 rounds. Machida said he was willing to give Shogun a rematch whenever he wanted.
