I agree that Silva's gonna destroy Lutter and personally I can't wait to see it but my point was if you put an everyday striker against an everyday ground and pound fighter, the ground and pound fighter would come out on top. Chuck's just a freak and nobody can come close to him without catching a couple on the chin. But it should be interesting to see what happens in Liddle vs. Ortiz 2 because Tito's so much stronger now. I still think Liddel will take it but it won't be so easy this time. Arlovski's sambo background is how he beat Sylvia the first time and without it he prolly woulda lost. Sylvia's success is based almost solely on his size not on the greatness of his striking. IF Monson is able to get that big goon down on Saturday it'll be interesting to see what heppens, because Silvia's been beat twice, both when he got taken to the mat. IF Tito is able to do the same thing in December to Liddel it's gonna be interesting kawz Tito's a beast on the ground.
Although BJ was injured that 3rd round he was getting caught with all sorts of punches while they were standing so he was going to lose that fight regardless, but the way Hughes finished him off was disgusting, Penn was just eating it for like 2 minutes straight. But you're right, Hughes has to improve his stand up...for a guy that strong he punches like a chick and if everyone knows you're going for a takedown it'll be pretty obvious on how to defend it. But even still, look at the average fighters...look at the winners of TUF 4....having that ground game is a definite advantage over striking. On that elite level it's a whole new ballgame because those strikers are so devastating, but for the average to great fighters I believe that i've gotta give it to the Jiu-Jitsu guys.
Btw....are they ever gonna do Wanderlai Silva vs. Chuck Liddel like was supposed to happen next month before Tito?
