Shogun to UFC?

In Las Vegas to watch the UFC 71 tomorrow, Dana White, president of the American organization, confirmed to the press the signing of the Brazilian Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Mysteriously, White said he did not know the details of the chuteboxer’s contract nor the exact date of the Brazilian's debut in the octagon, but agreed that Shogun is one of the big names in the fight for the light heavyweight belt, that will be defended tomorrow by the current champion, Chuck Liddell, against the challenger Quinton “Rampage" Jackson.

At the press conference today after the official weigh-ins, Dana White promised he would be making an announcement of impact tomorrow, during UFC 71. It is thought that the announcement will have something to do with the future of the winner of the Liddell and Rampage fight.

The fact that they already named Dan Henderson as the challenger to that fight makes me question this information...but still....

Nah i read a week before the ufc 71 from an insider that henders and shogun were gonna be announced. They also got on the chutebox website that shogun was gonna fight in the ufc. He might be introduced in the next even who knows.

LMFAO, Cotto is probally going to defeat Zab judah, because of Cotto's will to fight. Zab usaully gives up in the later rounds, whcih is why he lost aginst Floyd and Baldo.If Zab Moves alot and doesn't get hit, he want lose confidents, but if cotto starts to land, Zab will lose the will to fight. So I would say Cotto, but it can got either way.And Zab is the bigger man, but Cotto is the harder puncher IMO and has the perfect weapon for speed, body punches

Shannon Briggs, the only American holder of a world heavyweight title, would like a little more recognition.

Of course, his belt comes from the WBO, which is the least-established of the sanctioning bodies. And Briggs doesn't have a powerful publicity machine behind him.

After a news conference at a Manhattan steakhouse this week, he stood outside while dozens of people scurried past, most on their way to Broadway plays. Not one stopped for an autograph -- or even showed much interest in Briggs.

Briggs has been around since 1992 and has fought 53 times. You'd think that by accident, he'd have run into a handful of guys who could fight.

But he's made a career out of facing guys like Jason Waller, Reynaldo Minus and Demetrice King, who do a disservice to journeyman everywhere. And beating third-rate opponents like those takes a lot of the sparkle off his 48-4-1 record and 42 knockouts.

He's fought only five men in those 15 years who could be remotely categorized as A level heavyweights, yet he once held the linear heavyweight title and now wears the WBO belt.
