The Teacha drops some more knowledge. Edutain us man!
Yo Mayor, I know you love this part
[Today], the South gives respect. They treat Kool Herc as Jesus, they treat Afrika Bambaataa as Moses, they treat KRS-One as David. I lived in Atlanta for six or seven years, and I could do no wrong there. I could go to any radio station, TV station, club – door open. I go to New York, I gotta wait on a guestlist. I go to HOT97, I’m the voice of the station, you playin’ my drops, and I gotta wait downstairs for you cats to tell me when’s it cool --- get the f**k outta here! That s**t makes absolutely no sense! That’s why the South is now on top – because they stayed true to the culture. Will they continue? That’s a big question mark. Not to reach in the lid – ‘cause I know how AllHipHop.com can get [laughs], I ain’t f**kin’ with y’all – but that was the problem with Nelly. The streets level, not the KRS level – and it’s reflected in the Beef DVD.

Yeah nobody represents hip-hop more than KRS. I mean every interview I see him do, his eyes just light up when talking about the game.
^ And you know that New Yorkers are gonna hate reading that too.Originally Posted by sugahill

Nah NY radio is horrible. I gotta wait till 12am every thursday to catch music that isn't on the playlist followed by every single hip hop radio station in the country.Originally Posted by Heavily Weeded

You know whats interesting too is what Kris said about waiting in line at Hot97...i think New Yorkers got their head inflated for so long thinking that NY was the mecca of hip hop.
I mean...KRS-ONE waiting outside Hot97? If he never started rapping where would hip hop be right now? That's not a rhetorical question....

^ We've accepted the truth that the south is on top and that New Yorkers made a legend stand in line at the fuckin Hot97 studio....all these are the truest words spoken, coming out of the mouth of one of the truest and realest MC's...KRS...
There is truth to what you said...about the wack music being put out now...and how is that different from 10 years go, from today, or 10 years from now. Wack music will always exist...

First of all ask your self this - The south is on top of what ?
take some time to answer that for yourself wisely
Hot97 is not a Hip Hop function
at a Hip Hop function in NY, Kris would get the throne
Hot 97 is a radio station - it doesn't promote Hip Hop - it promotes a bullshit mentality to the people so they can imitate and become drones for corporate america - the south is on the top of this display of this type of imagery that promotes the sex, violence , and bling bling - thats why coporate america placed it "on top" yall is being used but yall can't see this - and yall are influencing these new New Yorkers to be the same way - its all mixed up right now
Now not all southern Mcs are wack their are many many True Hip Hop artist in the south - you just will not hear them on the radio or see them on TV like that - a few pushed through and made names for themselves - we all know who they are - to say that the south is wack and NY isn't is stupid - and vice versa
i been around the globe and seen true Hip Hop in many places - Ny did a very good job of spreading Hip Hop - but yall don't respect the path WE laid down and it will be your down fall -
it always existed and always will - difference between now and then is that the wack shit is "on Top" and the true artist get pushed down and oppressed by corporate america and the drones they put on Top fuck it up for everyoneOriginally Posted by Heavily Weeded
KRS has always had my respect as an artist... his point on that line was correct, but you highlighted the wrong one... this was the most important line in the entire interview:Originally Posted by sugahill
^ because it all starts there....the South gives respect.
on another note, i do find it humerous that the usual disrespect for the South/its culture did make its way into the thead from the usual [username title check] poster(s) without cause.... lol... nah its not about the South at all... lmao...sure
