Illmatic = Reasonable Doubt
Why the fuck do people keep sayin that, I dont understand. It aint like they used the exact same lyrics for every song. I just happen to like Nas' lyrics on Illmatic better then Jay's lyrics on Reasonable Doubt. Someone may like Jay's shit better, and thats fine, but how are people gonna say its the SAME THING.
Please explain yourself...............

That's how it is, my shit is laid out
Fuck that beef shit, that shit is played out
Think about it sick...theres 10 songs on Illmatic..9 wit the intro..Thats 9 songs..that aint much b...Nas put on a lyrical showstopper wit those 9 songs...Jay-z came wit 15 hot songs..not quite as strong lyrically, but remember these albums dropped in two different era's..in 94..when Illmatic dropped(even though Nas said he had most of it done in 92)that was the end of the whole lyrical Era..see hooks on Illmatic were very plain and simple..the beats were werent too complex either...the focus was all on Nas's lyrical and story telling ability..and that was the "thing" for rap songs at the time..Then moving to the 95-96 era you started seeing wat u see today..real focus on hooks, like having a singer on it and wat not, more complex beats, sampling begans too to be tooken to a new level..and Jay-z's album dropped in this ERA..see a song "Cant Knock The Hustle" would be unfamilar in the Illmatic/pre-Illmatic era...but wat it really comes down to is..both Albums are classics in their ERA..While Nas had stong str8 up lyrics in his..his hooks were simple ..rather it be chanting One Love or It aint hard to tell over and over again.while Jay-Z had more of SONGS..like "Feelin it", "Brooklyns Finest", Cant Knock the Hustle"....SO U REALY CANT PUT ONE OVER THE OTHER CAUSE THERE DOING TOO DIFERENT THINGS ILLMATIC=RESONABLE DOUBT
^^lmao...duke i'm not hatin u like othas but damn...there is no comparison...while one album is nice...da otha is groundbreaking...illmatic changed da culture of hip-hop during dat time frame...no question...an oh yeah...FUCK A HOOK!
dats da problem wit my culture right now...niggaz into hookz...fuck

Think about how jay-Z changed from 94-95/96..you see how lyrical he was then in 94..when he used to rap fast..and he had the whole thing goin wit Jaz-o..this was how Jay was then...strong lyrical depth, qiuck style..then listen to how he sounded by the time Resonable Doubt released..that just shows you the change in time...just two different time periods b...even though there so close year wise...its just the emerge of a new type of rap songs
See thats wat im saying..Jay-Z's Resonable Doubt was the beginning for the whole....turning Rap into actula developed songs with complex hooks and beats..Im not sayin it was good because it seems while we've advanced in the development of hooks and beats we've seem to have forgotten the wat bulit this shit..LYRICSOriginally Posted by Wisdom Itself
take Nas' 9 songs on Illmatic, compare them to the top 9 songs on Reasonable Doubt. What do you have? NO COMPARISON.
Also, Nas' 9 songs on Illmatic were, are, and will always be better than Jay's, Reasonable Doubt, put toghether.
Never the less, Reasonable Doubt was a pretty ill CD.

Exactly..two different times..two different stlye albums..so u cant put one over the other..but both classics of their timeOriginally Posted by enzer279
If they are both different styles since the hooks and beats matter more on Jay's and the lyrics matter morw for Nas, then that would mean they are DIFFERENT and not equal.Originally Posted by StreetSweeper2
Also, im not askin which one is better again, just makin sure u know, im just seein how dudes can say "Illmatic = Reasonable Doubt"

Yep, I agree with that exactly, Reasonable Doubt was good, but Illmatic is Historic for the entire culture of black music.Originally Posted by Wisdom Itself
Illmatic was a defining moment in hiphop. No one can say it wasnt. Saying they are equal is completely wrong. They way they are equal is that they were both big albums for both artist. Other than that they arent. Illmatic is the better album sorry to hurt the Jay fans. Reasonable Doubt is a classic but its no Illmatic.
