Default Why Hockey is more exciting that Basketball

Just got to reading the other thread so I figured I'd make one for fun.

    >> BODY CONTACT and COLLISIONS. Yes i know basketball is "body contact" but you cannot compare it to the collisions of hockey. Carolina had 18 hits in the first period of the game last night. Not even in football can you make an entire team scared to touch the puck because they know they are about to be in pain as soon as they do.

    >> A goal means something. Basketball games can go over 100 points for both teams. That lay-up 17 seconds into the game didn't mean shit. In hockey a goal means something. Games sometimes end 1-0 so every time you score it matters.

    >> Speed. In basketball players are on the court for long periods of time so they, at times, walk and lightly jog because they are tired or to conserve energy. In hockey players play 45 second shifts and fly around the ice the entire time. At the All-Star game they have "The Fastest Skater" competition and clock them. Their speeds reach 35-40 mph. You will not find speed like that in any other team sport.

    >> Sacrifice. Erik Cole came back for game 6 after breaking his neck 3 months ago. Vince Carter couldn't play through a hang nail in Toronto. Throughout the playoffs you saw men diving infront of slapshots moving at 100mph. They completely disregard how much pain they are about to feel because they know it could prevent a goal.

    >> The Stanley Cup. The best trophy in sports. And what other trophy gets filled up with beer and champagne every year and drank out of.
    2x *NFL Pick 'Em CHAMPION*
    *March Madness CHAMPION*

so they pulled out and robbed him
with the same gun they shot him with
Put it to his head and said "You scared ain't ya?"
He said: "Hustler for death. No heaven for a gangsta."

I wanted an album so rugged no one could touch it
Spent a million a track and went over my budget
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap no more, I just murdered the alphabet.

when you talkin bout body contact and collisions...your comparin a sport where you wear a ton of pads, to a sport where u dont where any....try guardin shaq...then tell me about body contact

a goal means something...yes...but you help to prove my point...that layup didnt mean nething? but u kno wat...then ur sayin that all the games at the end are CLOSE! both teams are gonna score in the last minute...where a hockey team scoring in the last minute is unlikely...and a goal means something only if ur team actually scores one....

speed? how about change of direction...jumpin....diving for a loose ball...i find speed much more entertaining when their on their feet and not a pair of skates

sacrifice? every sport has this...go see sean elliott, who lost a kidney...or alonzo mourning, who nearly died and is now in the finals, every sport has stories like this

the stanley cup...the best trophy that no1 ever knows.....and i wouldnt wanna drink something out of a cup that 20 other nasty smellin canadians drank out of

its easy to flip all this stuff, whatever ur fav sport is u can flip the script on

No one is scared to guard Shaq. Sure there's contact but not to the same extent. People were SCARED to go in the corners against Scott Stevens. He ended careers of guys not looking coming across the middle.

It's not how often you score, it's the importance of it. Every celebrates every goal scored in a hockey game.

You obviously have to change direction on skates too.

Sure there are great stories, but you left out the part about diving infront of an object moving 100mph.

You do realize they wash the cup. When you go to a restaurant you are drinking out of the same glass someone else used.

No one is scared to guard Shaq?............

    i am stunned

EVERYONE is scared to guard shaq, a little bump to him bruises your ribs, i'd rather have a puck hit me with pads on then catch an elbow to the ribs with no padding from a 7'1 325 pound man...try taking a charge on him...

one turnover in basketball can change the game, one basket, you need to watch game 6 goin on rite now, then tell me its not intense

Have you seen hockey equipment. Most of it is plastic maybe a couple millimeters thick. It still hurts to get hit with a puck.

A couple years ago in warm-up, Al McInnis shot a puck through the boards in the arena in Phoenix. THROUGH THE BOARDS

And I'm watching Game 6 right now. Have been watching the entire game.

I played High School ball. I know all about Basketball. But it doesn't seem like many people on here know much about hockey so I'm just showing a contrast

And it's an expensive sport to play. But if more people played it it would be so much more popular. Bball you can't take out your aggression very much on your opponents. In hockey, someone pisses you off, you wait for them to have their head down and when the puck comes to them you get going as fast as you can and knock them the fuck out with your shoulder to their chin.

Okay... The Stanley Cup IS the best lookin trophy in pro sports simply because its the biggest, they print all the past championship team rosters on it, and is treated like a head of state with all the Canadian mounty security it has before its ever even seen in the Finals.

BUT..... even though im a baseball fan FIRST, i still believe no trophy is harder earned than the Lombardi Trophy. Niggas be playin entire careers to win one and grow old and end up in terrible shape health wise (Earl Campbell comes to mind) just to get there. Dudes risk their damn lives to get a ring in the NFL...

    No diss to hockey either....

wow....is black (or assuming lower income, inner city) kids playing football a rarity?

SHIT...he england its the reverse, EVERYONE plays football, all you need is a ball and your good, you can make goals with alleyways, tshirts etc etc...and you can practice on your own against a wall....thats why i think its got so much appeal....its cricket and rugby and more prestige sports you find played at more wealthier areas and schools.

Kids all over the world, Africa, Asia, South America, Europe etc...all seem to play it more then any other sport because its the most easily available...you can play with just round objects, not even a ball.

CANNOT BELIEVE "SOCCER" IS A PRIVILEGED SPORT in the US. Maybe that will change in the next decade or so.
