dont get me wrong but when i was watching tha world cup it seem to be a little exciting, but when they show the regular soccer with different clubs it's boring. it's more exciting when all tha best players around the world come and play for their country. but as far as regular soccer it can't be compared to tha amazing and flashy BASKETBALL.

Nah, but thats even more the difference.

Basically, i know theres other basketball leagues in the US and college basketball is there aswell, but its basically JUST THE NBA....theres no other competiting leagues at all.

In World football, the whole of Europe has a massive fanbase for England, Spain, France, Germany and Italy (although i think the italian league is fucked)...the South American league - Brazil and Argentina....the Chinese and Japanese leagues, even the MLS is catching on (although to compete it needs to change - a whole other debate)

You just have the NBA....thats just for America really...its like cities vs cities, where we have national leagues, european cups, world cups, the best of europe club cups (e.g. champs league/uefa cup)

Clearly the World Cup will be one of the most exciting events, it pits NATIONAL teams from all over the world, with the best players and its more prestigious because its only every 4 years. So if the better players are playing then it clearly will be more exciting, although some may argue seeing a relegation battle in League 2 (which could result in a relegation to the Conference) is just as exciting in football.

I beg to differ you get that kind of hardcore and attachment to the shitter teams in the NBA.

there are many reasons why I say that I did not have as much potential in basketball as the other two sports listed....

I could do some ok dunks but never jump high enough as the greatest of the athletes

I was quick but could not move as quick as the greatest of the athletes

I had handles but could never dribble with the greatest of the athletes

Basically I was just not athletic enough to compete in a sport such as basketball which requires such high athleticism....while my natural talent allowed my to compete in sports that required less athleticism
Yeah exactly...you prefer to play it, but your not as good at it. It could easily be THE OTHER WAY ROUND for another person.

I honestly dont think basketball players are that adaptable...if your a top proffesional in the NBA you seem to be highly "fundamentalised". It would require another lifetime to do that.

Athletes are probably the best athletes (LOL)...e.g. Michael Johnson could probably have played NFL better then an NFL could compete with his 400 metres times. Multiple event athletes are probably better then anyone athletically...theres minimal cases where someone has competed and performed at the highest events for more the just one sport, and in many cases its at the Olympics.

First off not shiting on soccer. But Soccer has been brought to more countries than basketball has. In poorer countries kids can't play basketball, but they can play soccer. Basketball is just now really becoming a world sport, becuase before it was just an American thing. So about it just being the NBA, thats all it really can be. Thats why soccer or football is so popular because anybody can play it, and its more exciting to see a move done that you are trying to do. Like dunking i know this one kid he was from Spain kids would dunk in gym and he didn't really see what was so great about it till he started playing basketball. So excuse home boy who started this thread he a lil narrow minded. Only sport that I can't see as exciting is NASCAR, but its all opinion.

O yea the whole athleticism comment i think soccer requires a lot more, I seen a lil of some of those matches and dudes be running full speed kicking a ball up into the air to a teammate who knock it in. But i say that because i know some fat nasty dude who can ball , but i can see them dudes running in no soccer.

    Yeah...

Begin is right for once. Soccer is better because of all the reasons he listed...

The International Basketball Federation was formed in 1932 by eight nations: 7 European and 1 South American...

It now has 200+ national federations from five zones: Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania...

So, no offense Duval, but basketball has had more than enough time to become a truly global phenomena such as soccer...

    FIXED.

But i do enjoy watchin basketball nowadays anyway, but comparably its more in time for the playoffs. A full season of watching basketball would be pretty fuckin brutal to the mind, thats why i dont mind espn whenever im there because i always see highlights of both the NBA and NFL and only really see the games in full when im out eating with the fam.

Its like what someone said here, "I like the World Cup, because the best players are playing"....its kinda the same thing with me and basketball, but i actually try and follow a team all the way through...you know like predicting NBA "WORLD" (LOOOOOLZ) Champions 2006 would be Miami Heat and D.Wade would be MVP and win them the rings....yeah, you know that.

Just reading the thread makers first post, you can tell he doesnt understand football at all.

    Here are some funny quotes:
    • Nigga said you can watch your team for 3 hours.
    • Basketball allows players of all sizes to be successful and football doesnt.
    • A tie means nothing
    • "The penalty shot" < lmao
    • Basketball players do things the average human cannot whereas football players dont

I mean why would you try and make a point when you clearly know very little of football? Is it because the world cup is on, the whole world is watching and it has suddenly revealed how little and unimportant your favourite sport is? so you felt the need to come on here and try and figure it out. The reason why football is the world greatest sport doesnt need explaining, why? because the world have already chosen it over everything else. You either sit down and watch to learn the game or you make yourself look ignorant and stupid by staying bitter. Your choice.

-ok 90 minutes musta just felt like 3 hours against the czech republic...cause nothing was happening at least for us

-a tie does mean nothing in terms of bragging rights of who won the game...i would be very disappointed to buy tickets to a game that turned out to be 0 to 0

-the penalty shot....i just do not like it...its not a good way to determine the better team...like i said how would you feel if they had a free throw contest at the end of a tie basketball game

-though i would never be a succesful proffesional soccer player, i can picture myself with practice being able to do many of the maneuvers pulled off in soccer, where maneuvers pulled off by d wade are so far above the average humans ability and even potential...its not able to be attained through practice by the average human

so you felt the need to come on here and try and figure it out.
do not tell me how i felt. how do u know how i feel, there are 4968502928345098390580395890583 things i could be feeling, yet u have the ability to know????

You either sit down and watch to learn the game or you make yourself look ignorant and stupid by staying bitter. Your choice.
nobody's bitter...as the thread says i find soccer less exciting than basketball..i still like soccer, just not as much as hoops....at least im not trying to proclaim it better than another sport, just listing reasons why I enjoy it more

I will agree with Smoke about the penalty kicks to decide the outcome of a game....it's a terrible idea, just like using it for hockey.
