Default WHY i think basketball is more exciting than soccer

    +
In basketball hands are used. It is more natural to use your hands than to use your feet to control a ball. This allows for more graceful moves & amazing maneuvers.

    +
I found in Soccer you can waste a whole 3 hours watching your team if they do not score a goal. This is why I have always had a problem watching hockey. To me the most exhilirating point in a game is an amazing score. If your team loses 3 to nil you have basically experienced nothing but a complete waste of time. This is not uncommon in soccer. With two evenly matched opponents, a basketball game may have constant lead changes with a series of ups and downs. A team can quickly go from being up 12 to being down 8. I find this exciting.

    +
Basketball allows for players of all sizes to be succesful. A point guard can be just as effective and amazing to watch as a center. There is usually an ideal size and speed for a soccer player.

    +
The slam dunk. I do not think there is anything more exciting in any sport, than seeing an opponent getting dunked on.

    -
However, what appeals to me about soccer is the huge fan base. It is crazy to see how many people appear at a game & how loyal the fans are.
Also one flaw I noticed in soccer and basketball is the ambiguity in fouls. In both sports it is very tough to call fouls.

    The END

    pt. 2

    +
    "The Tie"
You will never see a basketball game end in a tie. If one spends their money and/or time watching 2 opponents, I feel it is almost a waste when nothing is accomplished.

    +
    "The Penalty Shot"
The penalty shot is a ludicrous way to decide the outcome of a game. To me it is similar to playing rock, paper, scissors. How can such a small aspect of the game be used to decide an outcome. I certainly prefer a last second three pointer.
A good parallel might be....How would you feel if....

..a tied baseball game was decided by a Home Run Derby?
..a tied football game was decided by a field goal shoot out?
..a tied basketball game was decided by a free-throw contest?

    +
The greatest basketball players do things that are so farfetched to the average athelete in comparison to soccer players. Not that soccer players are not athletic but certain maneuvers executed by basketball players are so out of the ordinary and amazing.....

    Examples....

Vince carter dunking over a 7 footer....
Nate Robinson even dunking at all period...
    Dwayne Wade's performance last night....
Just watch Lebron or Kobe....They do things that the average human can hardly fathom
T-mac scoring 13 points in 30 seconds to win the game...
    MJ taking over a game...

    THE END of pt. 2

Well as per usual on the good ol HHG shit comes down to opinion.

Im pretty sure its because YOU'VE been brought up on basketball, thats why you like it more.

Majority of the World is football orientated.

Me personally, i say almost everyone in england knows its THE sport...and have played it at least once....and clearly theres more funding, set ups, youth shit etc etc.

Theres more passion for a sport and love, if you play it more...e.g. i like basketball more now, because i played it for a year or two...before i fuckin hated it.

All the examples of players you said doing so called "Amazing things" could be clearly comparable to footballers doing amazing things.

    Maradonna's World Cup Goal
    Schmeical saves
    Carlos' free kicks
    Beckham free kicks

THERES SHIT LOADS OF EXAMPLES...thats NO argument, thats just preference of love over a sport and seeing the best players doing what they are best at....in fact. its pretty ridicolous you even say that...basketballs are athletic as fuck, but specifically to their sport...they wouldnt be able to win in a hand, eye motion sport, or be good in football, or american football, or hockey, neccesarily....they wouldnt win athletic games at the higher levels....thats clearly a shit argument

There are TIES....but there is ALWAYS ONE WINNER....the american premisis to ALWAYS have a winner or loser could be a foundation to its problems (SNUF!!!)

Penalty shoot outs are there for a reason, 120 minutes is long enough for a game to be played...something needs to settle the teams. Penatly shoot outs are a skill in itself...it deals with the pressure and composure of players....theres no ACTUAL luck, because its the kickers ability to put the ball where he wants....thats down to them. Its just harsh because it finishes the game so quickly, and sometimes its unfair...(e.g. Arsenal beating United in the F.A. cup when clearly United were the only team trying to win)

More natural? Perhaps, but i personally see more skill in someone kicking a ball then bouncing it...it takes A FAR GREATER SKILL LEVEL, if it is seen as more natural to use the hands therefore?

You can watch any sport and see your team lose....lmfao...its clearly comparable...a team can comeback in either sport (e.g. United vs Bayern Munich Champ League final, England vs Argentina...Liverpool vs Arsenal...Mickey Thomas)

Slam dunks are sick....theres no doubt, but so is a top corner screamer, a nutmeg or piece of skill that fucks the defender up and makes him look a fool....this happens in both sports...

I dont really how its more exciting with your argument points...clearly its down to opinion, but none of your argument points show that IT IS....

Both games seem to have gone "bitch" in my opinion....at the minute FIFA has fucked up the physical contact at the minute, but hopefully Blatter will die and we can get someone who actually watches football.

    My argument is....the audience

    Football > Basketball

And thats the fact....more people liking it, means it more encaptulates more excitement....POOOOOOWWW

they both got different things to them, and both are great sports...

livin in Cleveland, i gotta go with basketball because Lebron makes it amazing to watch...its kinda like if ur from Barcelona and Ronaldhino is on your team

but, since i am from america...americas game is Football...the one where you throw the ball...not kick...and specifically....college football...ohio state vs michigan...to me...thats the best matchup of any sport, any teams, any where

I think of any athletes a shooting guard or a small forward would be most succesful at other sports....It is true that a large majority of wide receivers in the NFL originally intended to play basketball but were not good enough and continued with football....Herman Moore and Randy Moss, two of the most gifted receivers ever were basketball players FIRST...In fact Donovan Mcnabb also tried his hand at basketball....There are many many many more examples...i have personally found also that most of my friends that play basketball are generally more all-around gifted at other sports as well

Im pretty sure its because YOU'VE been brought up on basketball, thats why you like it more.
That is quite an assumption to make. I was more brought up on hockey and baseball...which i eventually found to be less exciting sports than soccer, US football, and basketball....

i was given the opportunity to play and enjoy all sports when I was younger and at some point decided that basketball was the best to me....i guess a better assumption to make would be that basketball receives more attention in the United States, yet not as much as US football but somehow I still enjoy basketball more

    No.

I cant see how you can say this at all..your basically saying, people that start off in basketball can go off and be great in another sport. BUT that shit happens in every sport...and the fact is, the US schools and college sports systems shapes all the athletes into moulds. So if someone is naturally fast and athletic, they will try them in various sports...I dont get how, because they start in basketball, but then go into another sport, it shows that small forwards in the NBA would do well in another sport.

E.g. Jordan was an average baseball player at best, he probably only started because of his commercial quality and he played that sport when he was little.

You say you play every sport, so you know that people can be good at more then one sport, its not optimal in a shooting guard in basketball, but IT MAY BE OPTIMAL to the kinda size, athleticism and skill that most small forwards are, but these also found in many other sports.

I dont know what optimal size of shooting guard is, id say 6'0 to 6'5...theres many footballers that are of this size.

But yeah, its why you think, and i think thats got ALOT to do with your background and childhood...and soccer mums and the whole american soccer set-up is totally different to the rest of the Worlds....theres other sports that are more mainstream and attractive then that in the US, whereas football (soccer) IS the way out, THE sport, for the majority of the rest of the world.

Of all the sports I played...I had the most potential at baseball, and American Football...I stuck with basketball because it was most exciting.......

there are many reasons why I say that I did not have as much potential in basketball as the other two sports listed....

I could do some ok dunks but never jump high enough as the greatest of the athletes

I was quick but could not move as quick as the greatest of the athletes

I had handles but could never dribble with the greatest of the athletes

Basically I was just not athletic enough to compete in a sport such as basketball which requires such high athleticism....while my natural talent allowed my to compete in sports that required less athleticism

Why are yall comparing two completely different sports??????

I'd like to see ronaldinho get up like lebron and teabag guys.

But on the other hand id like to see lebron just down a field as quickly as ronaldinho and score goals.

But as far as exciting.....you are going to pick your favorite sport as being more exciting.

Good point...I've never liked that all grouping together when youve scored either...n it's worst in Spain where I've actually seen them kiss on the cheeks n even lips when they're leaving the pitch...can't believe my eyes when I see that...Real Madrid players are the worst for it
