Prepare to enter The Wu.

The Wu-Tang Clan is truly so unique–a genuine example of something or someone being one-of-one. We all know the musical cachet that they wield; we all know that they are a collection of some of hip-hop’s most entertaining characters. And we know that this group of talented figures cannot, and refuse to be, limited to one entertainment venture.

Most of the members have experimented in film: RZA consistently is operating either in-front or behind the camera; Method Man has developed into a respected actor, earning a leading part in HBO’s hit series, The Deuce; Ghostface Killah and GZA have a new web series, Wu-Tang In Space Eating Impossible Sliders. But for as much as these individuals have ventured into tangential entertainment careers, they haven’t collectively released a project–or been portrayed in one.

Variety recently reported that Hulu has ordered 10-episodes of a new show: Wu-Tang: An American Sage. The captivating idea materializes as a series telling the tale of the formation of one of hip-hop’s most iconic groups, including delving into the backgrounds of foundational members: RZA, GZA, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, U-God, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard. It is thought to be based on RZA’s The Wu-Tang Manual and The Tao Of The Wu.

While the series has officially been ordered, a release date still eludes us. Hopefully this show will hit screens sooner rather than later, as it’s poised to be a fascinating expository tale behind some of the genre’s most impactful molders.
